Symonds Yat In the Yat Rock area today the Peregrine pair, a Hobby, Buzzards, Ravens, a Green Woodpecker, Stock Doves, a Grey Heron, a Marsh Tit, Swallows and House Martins. Also Hornets, a Bank Vole, Hummingbird Hawk moths and Small Copper, Silver-washed Fritillary, Large and Green-veined White, Red Admiral, Common Blue, Ringlet, Speckled Wood, Gatekeeper and Comma butterflies. Ashleworth Ham In a Constant Effort Ringing session 81 birds were caught including four Redstarts, six Sedge Warblers, 14 Whitethroats, 14 Blackcaps, a Willow Warbler, two Reed Buntings, a Treecreeper, ten Bullfinches and three Goldfinches. (Mervyn Greening/Barrie Mills/Mike Smart).
Cheltenham At 9:45am a Peregrine stripping feathers from prey on top of a pinnacle on Christchurch, then two more noisily appeared, an adult with a pigeon and a juvenile. The adult flew up and dropped the pigeon which the juvenile caught but it was unable to get back to the tower because it was mobbed by a Magpie and two gulls, eventually disappearing down towards the Lansdown Road. Maisemore Church Road from the pool to the weir on the Severn birds included two Red Kites, two Buzzards, two Kingfishers, 11 Tufted Ducks (2ads + 4 ducklings), ten Canada Geese, eight Moorhens, 11 Mallards (inc 5 ducklings) and two Great Spotted Woodpeckers heard. (John Fletcher). Pics by John.


Halmore A Barn Owl hunting last night at dusk (2nd sighting in a week). At least two Goldfinches drinking from a goldfish pond yesterday and today perching on lily pads, three young Long-tailed Tits in the garden and a Wren dust bathing with Sparrows. This morning a Buzzard in an oak and a male Brimstone and two Purple Hairstreaks amongst butterflies in the garden today. (Chris Newton). Pic by Chris.
