The Gloucestershire Birding League is popular with all those who have taken part since 2002, so it will run again this year in the same format. For the purpose of this league we will use the list on site. Go to List. Only species shown in red are not countable. Feral Pigeon, feral Barnacle Goose, feral Ruddy Shelduck and Greylag will be allowed. At the moment Blue Rock Thrush is not countable until accepted. If in doubt about what you can count ask me. The following species can be counted on call (heard only) if you wish – Quail, Spotted Crake, Corncrake, Tawny Owl, Long-eared Owl, Nightjar, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Turtle Dove, Nightingale, Cetti’s, Savi’s and Grasshopper Warblers and Willow Tit. The previous year’s Champions are listed below. The record of 222 was set in 2008 by Martin McGill, including 200 at WWT, although Martin doesn’t enter because of the advantages of his job. There are now to my knowledge 13 birders in the Gloucestershire 200 Club – Martin, Neil Smart, Andy Lodge, Steve Owen, Paul Masters, Andy Chapman, Mark Hobson, Jake King, Paul Taylor, Mark Dowie, Geoff Moyser, Roberta Goodall and myself. New members always welcome. How about this year?
