Welcome to the home of The Gloster Birder.
My name is Mike King and have lived all my life in Gloucestershire. I am happiest birding around Frampton but I especially love Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. I have birded all over Europe, in the U.S.A. and Canada, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Costa Rica, Belize, Mexico, Dominican Republic, The Gambia, Cape Verde, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana and most recently Tanzania.
I hope you will find this site interesting. It includes County news, sites to visit and other information about birds in Gloucestershire and beyond. This site has now been running since August 2000, thanks to all my regulars and anyone else who has been kind enough to visit these pages. Please call back from time to time to see the new developments and of course, it will still be updated most days. You can e-mail me at any time at GlosterBirder@gmail.com with your thoughts, comments or contributions or use the contact page on the site.
Gloucestershire is one of the best counties to see many special birds. There are many important sites throughout the county which you will find on the Location Finder page under Resources. There is also a County list showing first dates if known. I have used as references the excellent “Birds of Gloucestershire” by Christopher M. Swaine and also the Gloucestershire Bird Reports from 1951 to date. Many thanks to all of the photographers who have really brought this site to life. See the Sightings pages to fully appreciate their wonderful contributions.
