Forest of Dean An OSPREY circling over Sandford Terrace for five minutes before drifting off S at 10:20am. (Jonny Gentle). Birds along river from Lydney harbour included two Kingfishers, two Green Sandpipers, three Ringed Plovers, three Wheatears, a Peregrine with a kill, two Curlews, four Common Sandpipers, a Grey Wagtail and a Kestrel. Sharpness A Sanderling, two Whinchats and a Mediterranean Gull this morning. At SARA this evening 285 Curlews, 21 Knot all upriver and 350 Swallows mainly low upriver. (Andy Jordan).
Frampton Around the pools this evening a Whitethroat, 42 Chiffchaffs, 16 Blackcaps, four Reed Warblers, a Yellow Wagtail, two Hobbies, a Cattle Egret, two Great White Egrets, 146 Swallows, 65 House Martins, 28 Sand Martins, ten Meadow Pipits, two Skylarks, 34 Wigeon, 38 Teal, 167 Greylags, eight Jays and four Cetti’s Warblers. Stinchcombe Hill This evening a first-winter Wheatear, at least seven Spotted Flycatchers on the southern slopes, a few Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps and southerly moving Swallows. Also a Hummingbird Hawk Moth. (James Robinson).
Coombe Hill Meadows This morning several Green Woodpeckers, a Hobby, a Grey Wagtail, a Kingfisher and a Wheatear. (Jeremy Holland).
Stroud A narrow-winged ringtail Harrier species flew N over Stroud at 1:50pm. (Francis Steuck).
Cheltenham A Yellow Wagtail flew over W at Benhall at 12:45pm, a garden tick. (Ian Ralphs).
Ashleworth Ham A ringing session saw 160 birds caught including a Redstart, three Lesser Whitethroats, nine Blackcaps, a Whitethroat, 25 Chiffchaffs, two Willow Warblers, two Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 30 Long-tailed Tits, a Treecreeper, 50 Goldfinches and three Greenfinches.
