Chavenage Lane area A male Wheatear on a drystone wall at Barton End, also 38 Golden Plovers, a Red Kite and a large ongoing northerly movement of several thousand Woodpigeons. (Terry Grant).
Nailsworth A HOUSE MARTIN flew N past the house at 5pm. Also a second pair of Long-tailed Tits nesting, this time just outside the garden. (Terry Grant).
Stroud This morning a female Goshawk flew W. (Terry Grant). The female Goosander just E of Bowbridge lock today. (Phil Pope).
Coombe Hill Meadows This morning at first light two Mute Swans, three Greylags, four Canada Geese, 215 Wigeon, at least six Gadwalls, 170 Teal, 20 Mallards, 11 Pintails, 31 Shovelers, six Tufted Ducks, two Grey Herons, 20 Coots, a Red Kite, two Oystercatchers, ten Lapwings, six Golden Plover over, four Curlews, two Dunlins, 170 Black-tailed Godwits, three Redshanks, a Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming, 50 Fieldfares, ten Redwings, a Blackcap singing, at least four Chiffchaffs and at least three Reed Buntings singing. NOTE: the lane to the GWT carpark by The Wharf is blocked by a landslip, so you can’t drive down the lane. (Ian Ralphs/Mike Smart).
Frampton From the towpath N of Splatt Bridge, 10+ Chiffchaffs, a Sand Martin, two Mandarins, two Ruff, four Redshank, 40 Curlew, three Oystercatchers, 24 Black-tailed Godwits which departed N, a further 178 Black-tailed Godwits (biggest flock 120) 14 Golden Plovers and 242 Woodpigeons all flew N. On the flashes five pairs of Gadwalls, three pairs of Shovelers, a Kingfisher, a Cetti’s Warbler, 20+ Redwings some singing and 150 White-fronted Geese on the river. Elmore At the Elmore Court Rewilding Project from the public footpath along Broadmeadow Bank Ditch birds this morning included two Shelducks, eight Teal, six Green Sandpipers, a Sparrowhawk, a Red Kite, seven Chiffchaffs and 23 Meadow Pipits. (Mark Hobson).
Aylburton This afternoon at Stockwell Lane six Snipe, 40 Redwings, 20 Starlings, two Moorhens, a Chiffchaff and a drake Mandarin (patch tick) with a male and two female Mallards. (Martin Vaisey).
Fromebridge Four Yellowhammers 1/2 mile downstream from Fromebridge Mill this morning. (Trevor Lewis).
Shurdington/Badgeworth Along the Gloucestershire Way two Chiffchaffs heard and a Buzzard overhead. At The Park, Badgeworth two Skylarks, two Chiffchaffs, two Long-tailed Tits, a juvenile Buzzard calling and a mixed flock of c30 Fieldfares and Redwings. (Howard Taylor).
Bentham Along Sandy Pluck Lane two Jays, six House Sparrows, two Chaffinches, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, a Raven and a Skylark. (Howard Taylor).
Brockworth At Henley Bank Community Wood a Green Woodpecker, a Chiffchaff calling, a Jay and a Bumble Bee sp. (Howard Taylor). A Coal Tit and Marsh Tit both new to the garden. Also Blackcaps and Long-tailed Tits, both present all winter. (John Miles).
