Frampton    At Splatt Bridge early this morning a Snipe flew high over the church, a Marsh Harrier, a Buzzard, two Kestrels, two Little Egrets, two Yellow Wagtails over, two Grey Wagtails, a Kingfisher by the bridge and 18 Cormorants headed towards the river. (Steve Pullen).

WWT Slimbridge     The Tundra Bean Goose, of unknown origin, on South Lake, also 182 Black-tailed Godwits. From Zeiss hide three SPOONBILLS, a Great White Egret, two Grey Herons and a BITTERN today. (Ian Hull).

Saul Warth to Cambridge Arms     The BLACK-WINGED KITE still this morning, very mobile and seen over the 100-Acre, on Saul Warth, from Cambridge Arms bridge and was also visible from Middle Point, WWT. Frampton     This evening at least five Swifts over the sailing lake. Also a Hobby, a Green Sandpiper, a Common Sandpiper, a Great White Egret and a Spotted Flycatcher along Marsh Lane. (Nick Goatman).

Edge     At Rudge Hill N.N.R. this afternoon two Spotted Flycatchers, three Linnets and a Buzzard. (John Fletcher).

Elmore Court     At lunchtime in the rewilding area four Whinchats and at least ten Stonechats, also 34 Mistle Thrushes in the trees near to the Court house. (Steve Pullen). This afternoon 5+ Buzzards, a Grey Heron, 30+ Swallows, six House Martins, two Meadow Pipits, a Southern Hawker and 4+ Small Coppers. (Paul Clark).

Arlingham     A Wheatear in the village in the field across the road from the church at 3:30pm. (Peter Bryant).

Wednesday 20th August 2025

Saul Warth     A BLACK-WINGED KITE this evening (Gordon Hodgson), which moved down to Splatt Bridge, Frampton then into the 100-Acre and on to WWT where it looked like it would roost. However it was seen moving back towards Frampton at dusk but was lost to view. Because of the lack of parking spaces in and around Splatt Bridge it is best to park sensibly in the village and walk.

This morning between 6-9am, very low high tide, 110 Curlews, 34 Avocets, c50 Ringed Plovers, c50 Dunlins, 28 Shelducks, a Little Egret, a Peregrine, two Yellow Wagtails, a Grey Wagtail, four Pied Wagtails, a Blackcap, a Whitethroat, four Chiffchaffs, a Mistle Thrush, 25 Swallows and 20 Linnets. WWT Slimbridge    On the Top New Piece a BITTERN flew to the south end, seven Garganeys (6 on the fleet and one with 100+ Teal on the flood) and two Green Sandpipers. (Slimbridge Sightings).

Epney     At 5:50am the Wigeon with two Teal, 170+ Mallards and 90 Canada Geese from the seawall S of the Anchor Inn. (MK).

Berkeley     This evening the Pink-footed Goose, of unknown origin, with 46 Canada Geese in the Pill (another 60+ on Lydney Harbour side). Also nine Barnacle Geese flew by and two Stonechats this evening. (Thomas McClung).

Elmore Court     This morning six Whinchats, a Sand Martin, 50+ Swallows, a female-type Redstart and two Spotted Flycatchers. (Andy Jayne). This afternoon still two Whinchats, three Stonechats, ten Mistle Thrushes, 27+ Swallows, three Kestrels, five Buzzards, a Reed Warbler, a Whitethroat and four Chiffchaffs. South Cerney     A Spotted Flycatcher at the playing field in hawthorn trees by the BMX track. (Richard Williams).

Ebworth Centre     A Wheatear near the drive. Near the buildings two Green Woodpeckers, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, three Kestrels together, two Buzzards, two Ravens, a Mistle Thrush and c20 each of Swallows and House Martins. (Steve Brown).

Leckhampton     Near the Pilley Bridge reserve a noisy Peregrine over, two Buzzards, a Jay and two Ravens. A Sparrowhawk over Hall Road. A Green Woodpecker near Burrows Field. Also a Silver Y moth in the garden. (Steve Brown).

Cotswold Water Park West    At Shorncote reed beds two Green Sandpipers, 12 Lapwings, a Great White Egret, two Little Egrets, six Common Terns and a Kingfisher today. (Richard Williams).

Stonehouse     A Little Owl on a telegraph pole on the Standish to Stonehouse road just approaching the Stagholt allotment entrance this evening. (Jon Dexter).

Nailsworth     At least 25-30 warblers in the garden, mainly Chiffchaffs with a few Willow Warblers, a couple of Blackcaps and a tail-less Reed Warbler, a garden tick. Also five species of Tit including Marsh. (Terry Grant).

Longlevens     A Red Kite at 3:20pm circling over allotments behind the house then flew S, a garden tick. (Pam & Frank Bryant).

Saul Warth     Between 6-9am no tide, five SHAGS flew over early and at 8:15am three landed on the river but flew off at 8:20am, very unexpected. Later one seen off of Middle Point and SARA Sharpness. Also 130 Curlews, 21 Avocets, a Ringed Plover heard, 88 Shelducks, a Peregrine causing havoc, three Kestrels, two Yellow Wagtails, two Grey Wagtails, four Pied Wagtails, three Chiffchaffs and four Swallows. WWT Slimbridge     From Zeiss hide 187 Black-tailed Godwits, a Spotted Redshank and two WOOD SANDPIPERS today. (Dot Jones). Later two Spotted Redshanks on South Lake. A BITTERN flew from the right hand side of the Zeiss hide to the reedbed on the island opposite the Van de Bovenkamp hide at 1pm today. (Roger Edmondson).

Elmore Court     This morning a Hobby hunting Swallows over the village hall. In the rewilding area two Whinchats and four Stonechats, a Red Kite, a Kestrel, nine Mistle Thrushes, four Great Spotted Woodpeckers and two Grey Herons. Also a Clouded Yellow butterfly. (Steve Pullen).

Ashleworth Ham     A CEF ringing session caught 41 birds including five Redstarts, a Sedge Warbler, a Reed Warbler, five Whitethroats, seven Chiffchaffs, seven Long-tailed Tits and two Bullfinches. On the reserve six Mallards, a Kestrel and a Skylark. (Mike Smart).

Cobney & Leigh Meadows     A Buzzard and a Chiffchaff at Cobney and a Grey Heron, a Green Sandpiper and a Skylark. (Mike Smart).

Tresham     This morning three Spotted Flycatchers, three Wheatears, two Red Kites, two Whitethroats, a Corn Bunting and three Stock Doves. (Paul Rich).

Coombe Hill Meadows     This morning 8:30-10am, c50 Swallows, c10 House Martins, two Blackcaps, c8 Chiffchaffs, two families of Bullfinches with juveniles, a Cetti’s Warbler, a Yellow Wagtail, two Whitethroats, two juvenile Stonechats, an adult male Redstart, a Chaffinch, two Greenfinches, c10 Moorhens and a juvenile Coot, a Grey Heron and a Red Kite. (Rob Crofton). Along the canal three Buzzards, five Bullfinches, two Green Woodpeckers, 6+ Swallows and 8+ House Martins. Also four Migrant Hawkers, a Brown Hawker, a WILLOW EMERALD damselfly.
