Forest of Dean     At Woorgreens Lake early morning a Green Sandpiper and two Common Sandpipers. (Frank Williams). At Greathough Brook a Tawny Owl seen, two Spotted Flycatchers, five Chiffchaffs, a Bullfinch, a Treecreeper, a Marsh Tit and many Nuthatches. Also six Silver-washed Fritillaries, ten Golden-ringed Dragonflies, an Emperor and a Hornet. At Cannop Ponds three Ravens nearby, a pair of Mute Swans with a cygnet and a Grey Wagtail. At Lydney Harbour two Whitethroats, at least three Blackcaps and a Raven. (Stephen Curtis & Carol Rushton).

WWT Slimbridge     The male WHITE-SPOTTED BLUETHROAT still in the reedbeds at Middle Point from the Shepherds Hut. On South Lake from Hogarth hide a SPOONBILL and two Spotted Redshanks. On the Top New Piece six Little Ringed Plovers and two Garganeys. (Slimbridge Sightings/Terry Stevenson).

Tresham      A steady southerly movement of Swifts with 300+ in the space of an hour this morning. Also a female Goshawk, two Red Kites and 30+ Corn Buntings. (Terry Grant).

Highnam    20+ Swifts and 50+ House Martins over the spine road at 9pm. (Tom Berry).

Sunday 29th June 2025

Newnham/Broadoak    Seven Ring-necked Parakeets between Broadoak and Newnham-on-Severn beside the A48 between 6:40-8am. Some were at Cliff House, the house with the SOLD sign on the left just before the Silver Fox café feeding on apples and visible from the footpath. Others were in trees in Beeches Road, Newnham. All seven were seen in flight together. Three Common Terns flew downriver past Broadoak. (MK).

Tresham      Two QUAIL calling again this evening at 9:40pm E of the village. (Mark Coller).

WWT Slimbridge     The male WHITE-SPOTTED BLUETHROAT still in the reedbeds at Middle Point from the Shepherds Hut. Also at Middle Point a SPOONBILL and three Common Terns. On the Top New Piece five adult Little Ringed Plovers and two Garganeys. (Slimbridge Sightings).

Forest of Dean     At Nagshead this afternoon a Blackcap, a Garden Warbler, a Spotted Flycatcher, a Hawfinch, a Kingfisher, a bathing Song Thrush and  a Wild Boar family. (Eden Tanner). 20+ noisy Swifts high above Taurus Crafts, Lydney between 8:30-8:45pm, 6+ Swallows feeding noisy nestlings and 2-3 House Martins. At 8:20pm, 15+ House Martins and c6 Swifts high above Forge Hill, Lydbrook and a Grey Heron flying down Lydbrook valley. (Chris Sullivan).

North Cerney     In Conigree Wood birds included a Spotted Flycatcher, a female Redstart, a Firecrest, a Coal Tit, a Marsh Tit, several Goldcrests, a Sparrowhawk and a Hobby. (Dave Soons).

Haresfield     Early afternoon three Yellowhammers, nine Yellow Wagtails, two Ravens, two Buzzards and 11 Stock Doves. Also a Hummingbird Hawk-Moth. (Steve Pullen).

Tresham      Two QUAIL calling this evening at 9:30pm E of the village. (Paul Rich).

Chavenage     A QUAIL calling faintly between 7:48-8am off of Chavenage Lane at ST 84805 95506. (MK).

Newnham-on-Severn     A pair of Ring-necked Parakeets with three juveniles in Beeches Road at 8am. Also visiting Unlawater Lane. This is the first breeding record for Gloucestershire. (Dan Watson).

Gloucester     A male BLACK REDSTART briefly in song at the bottom of Northgate Street by the old Wilkinson’s store at 9am. (Andy Jayne).

Chavenage Lane area     Birds included two QUAIL calling to each other in a wheat field, also many Corn Buntings, Yellowhammers, Linnets and Skylarks and several Whitethroats, including juveniles, W of Chavenage Green. (Chris Newton).

Forest of Dean     In the Woorgreens/Crabtree Hill area eight Crossbills (1m), a pair of Stonechats, two Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Willow Warblers, Chiffchaffs and a Buzzard. Also a Golden-ringed Dragonfly, Four-spotted and Broad-bodied Chasers, a Silver-washed Fritillary, a Small Copper and many Toads. (MK).

Stinchcombe Golf Course     A Spotted Flycatcher and seven Swifts this morning. Also 13 butterfly species including a Silver-washed Fritillary, a Painted Lady, 19 Commas, six Red Admirals, three Peacocks, a Speckled Wood and seven Large Skippers. (Brian Kings).

Frampton     From Splatt Bridge early morning, five newly fledged Swallows from the nest under the bridge sat in a nearby Willow being fed by the parents, a Grey Wagtail, two Pied Wagtails, 12 Greenfinches, a Common Tern and two Tufted Ducks over. (Steve Pullen).

Stonehouse     In the Bond’s Mill area this morning a Chiffchaff, a Cetti’s Warbler, a Song Thrush, a Kingfisher, two family parties of Blackcaps, young Robins and a young Blackbird. Also Banded and Beautiful Demoiselles, Blue tailed and Common Blue Damselflies, Four-spotted Chasers, a Brown Hawker, Emperors, a Scarce Chaser, Commas, Speckled Woods, Small White and Small Skipper. WWT Slimbridge     The male WHITE-SPOTTED BLUETHROAT still in the reedbeds at Middle Point from the Shepherds Hut. Two summer plumaged Spotted Redshanks and two Little Ringed Plovers from Hogarth hide on South Lake. Saul Warth    A drake COMMON SCOTER flew in from the N at 8:15am over the top of Hock Sluice and landed on the river N of Tites Point. Also at high tide a Common Tern, 600+ Black-headed Gulls, 80 Shelducks including 20 ducklings, 30 Avocets, 30+ Curlews, a Redshank, 14 Oystercatchers, a male Marsh Harrier, a male Kestrel, two Skylarks and seven Stock Doves. Sharpness     The drake COMMON SCOTER flew S past SARA at 9:25am. (Oliver Paisey).

WWT Slimbridge     A female Garganey on the Rushy this morning and another on South Lake. (Warren Gill). Also on South Lake two Spotted Redshanks and 156 Avocets. On the Top New Piece from Zeiss hide an adult WOOD SANDPIPER and an eclipse drake Garganey. Two Wheatears at Middle Point. (Dot Jones).

Highnam Woods     A singing Firecrest, a Spotted Flycatcher seen and nearby a Yellow Wagtail by Two Mile Lane. Also several Silver-washed Fritillaries. (Andy Jayne).

Leckhampton     At St Peter’s Church two Swifts, a Stock Dove, a singing Greenfinch and c50 Cinnabar Moth caterpillars. Near the Pilley Bridge reserve a Buzzard, two Ravens, a Jay and six House Martins. (Steve Brown).

Forest of Dean     From 8:45pm 10+ Swifts circling high above Forge Hill, Lydbrook. Also c6 Scarlet Tiger moths. (Chris Sullivan).

WWT Slimbridge    The male WHITE-SPOTTED BLUETHROAT still in the reedbeds at Middle Point from the Shepherds Hut. Four Green Sandpipers and a Greenshank on the Tack Piece. An immature SPOONBILL and two Spotted Redshanks on South Lake from Hogarth hide. Also on South Lake 90+ Avocets and a Little Ringed Plover. A female Garganey and a Common Tern on the Rushy. Four fledgling Treecreepers in the Spinney Wood. (Ian Hull/Oliver Paisey/Tim McGrath).

Frampton     From Splatt Bridge 6am-7am today birds included a Cuckoo calling, a Kingfisher, an adult Lesser Whitethroat with at least four newly fledged youngsters, three Whitethroats, six Stock Doves and a Grey Heron. (Steve Pullen).

Edge     At Rudge Hill NNR late afternoon two Bullfinches, two Goldcrests, a Meadow Pipit carrying food, a Linnet, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, two Green Woodpeckers, a Sparrowhawk, many Marbled White and Speckled Wood butterflies and Common Spotted Orchids. (John Fletcher).

Minchinhampton     Three Blackcaps heard around the golf course, on the 10th hole lake a Little Grebe in breeding plumage and four Canada Geese with eight goslings feeding by the 13th tee, 12 Greylags next to the 12th hole lake and a Nuthatch by the 17th hole tee box. (Mil Petkovic).

WWT Slimbridge    The male WHITE-SPOTTED BLUETHROAT still in the reedbeds at Middle Point from the Shepherds Hut. On South Lake 86 Avocets and two Spotted Redshanks. An eclipse Garganey from Zeiss hide and a Hobby on the Dumbles scrape this morning. (Roberta Goodall).

Chapmans Cross     Around Cranhill Barn this morning a Red Kite, a Swift, eight Swallows, 20+ Skylarks, six Yellowhammers, six Linnets, six Goldfinches and three Corn Buntings. (MK).

Standish     This afternoon four Yellow Wagtails, six Yellowhammers, a Little Owl heard, two Buzzards, 5+ Skylarks, eight Linnets, three Whitethroats and a Roe Deer. (Steve Pullen).

Frampton pools     Two Cattle Egrets, nine Little Egrets, six Grey Herons, eight Great Crested Grebes and nine young, 30+ Swifts, 50+ Sand Martins, four Common Terns, a Spotted Flycatcher, a Hobby and an adult Yellow-legged Gull today. (Nick Goatman).

Naunton     At Lower Harford a Buzzard, a Kestrel, a Grey Heron,  four Ravens, a Green Woodpecker, four Stock Doves and a Nuthatch. Butterflies included a Comma, a Large Skipper, a Ringlet, numerous Large Whites and Meadow Browns and a mass of Green-veined Whites on wet mud. Also a Black-tailed Skimmer, many Beautiful Demoiselles, a few blue Damselfly sp and many tiny Toads around the ford. (Steve Brown).

Kilkenny viewpoint     Two Buzzards, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, a Tree Pipit singing, a Yellowhammer and a small flock of Linnets. Butterflies included a few Large and Small Skippers, a Painted Lady, a Small Tortoiseshell and many Marbled Whites, Ringlets and Meadow Browns. (Steve Brown).

Winchcombe     Near Greet a post-breeding flock of 1000-1500 Rooks in a grass field and also yesterday. (John Kime).

WWT Slimbridge     The male WHITE-SPOTTED BLUETHROAT still in the reedbeds at Middle Point from the Shepherds Hut. The SPOONBILL from Middle Point this morning. Forest of Dean     At Mallards Pike at 3pm, a Nightjar heard churring, then flew across the path and into the woodland. (Rosy Heywood & Danny Sturgeon). 23 Crossbills over Wenchford earlier this morning. (Dan Watson).

Hasfield Ham     Two QUAIL seen well at the river end of Stank Lane early morning, where the road becomes dirt track, but not calling. (Robin Lewis).

Saul     A Common Tern on Saul ponds early morning then another fishing on the canal between Fretherne and Sandfield bridges, then four flew over towards Saul. (Roberta Goodall).

Frampton     From Splatt Bridge this morning a Common Tern, two Kingfishers, two female Mandarins, two Jays and a Hobby chasing fledgling Swallows by the bridge, until driven away by 15 Swallows. (Steve Pullen).

Nailsworth     Three Swifts over the town centre this evening. (Paul Sadley).
