Epney     Six Great White Egrets loafing on an island S of the Anchor at Epney at 11am. Also two Little Egrets and a Grey Heron. At 1:30pm seven Great White Egrets but nearer to Framilode and 50+ Sand Martins around the seawall colony by the Anchor. (MK).

Cotswold Water Park East     Three Green Sandpipers and a Great White Egret at Pit 132 this morning. (Paul Rich).

WWT Slimbridge     A WOOD SANDPIPER from Hogarth hide this afternoon and a pair of Garganeys from Zeiss hide. Arlingham     Four Green Sandpipers on the Arlingham side of the River Severn viewed from Westbury-on-Severn this evening. (Dan Watson).

Forest of Dean     At Cannop Ponds a family of four Ravens, three Mute Swans (2 ads, 1 cygnet), four Coots (2 ads, 2 chicks) and a Grey Wagtail. Also a Silver-washed Fritillary, three Black-tailed Skimmers and three Emperors. At Nagshead three Pied Flycatchers heard, a Firecrest heard 4+ Siskins and a Garden Warbler. Also three Broad-bodied Chasers (2m, 1f), an Emperor, a Scarlet Tiger Moth and a Comma. At Bishop Mead, Lydney from the garden a Whitethroat heard, a Willow Warbler, a Greenfinch, a Great Black-backed Gull on top of an adjacent house, two Swifts, three House Martins and a Ringlet. Elmore Court     In the rewilding area this morning, birds included a Cuckoo, a Stonechat, two Little Egrets, six Lapwings, three Sedge Warblers, two Reed Buntings, 10+ Skylarks and five Goldcrests. Also large numbers of Meadow Brown and Skipper Butterflies and several Marbled Whites. (Steve Pullen).

Hartpury     Birds today included a Hobby, a Red Kite, five Buzzards, a Green Woodpecker, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, three Greenfinches, three Chaffinches, a Song Thrush, a Blackcap, a Whitethroat, four Stock Doves, 30+ Greylags, 17+ Canada Geese, two Chiffchaffs and a Nuthatch. (Oliver Paisey).

Ashleworth Ham     Another Constant Effort Site ringing session caught 98 birds, including a Green Woodpecker, the first ever caught in 30 years. Also four Redstarts, four Sedge Warbler, two Blackcaps, 23 Whitethroats, two Lesser Whitethroats, seven Chiffchaffs, a Treecreeper, two Bullfinches and eight Reed Buntings. On the reserve and surrounding fields, a Curlew calling, five Skylarks, a Willow Warbler and a Raven. Wednesday 18th June 2025

Cotswold Water Park East     Three TREE SPARROWS reported late yesterday at Kempsford Treatment Works (Brian Piercey), but not relocated this morning in a thorough search. Two Grey Wagtails there. At Pit 132 this morning a surprise unseasonal FIELDFARE, an equally late drake Wigeon, six Great White Egrets, six Little Egrets, four Grey Herons, six Lapwings, two Oystercatchers, a Cuckoo and a Garden Warbler. Also Ringlet, Large Skipper, Marbled White and Green-veined White butterflies. Both Banded and Beautiful Demoiselles, Black-tailed Skipper and Common Darters. (MK).

Forest of Dean     This evening 6+ House Martins circling around and above Beech trees at Forge Hill, Lydbrook. Earlier, three Scarlet Tigers and three Meadow Browns. (Chris Sullivan).

WWT Slimbridge    The male WHITE-SPOTTED BLUETHROAT still in the reedbeds at Middle Point from the Shepherds Hut today. A Spotted Redshank and 114 Avocets on South Lake. (Ian Hull).

Over Canal     This afternoon a Kingfisher, a Buzzard, 3+ Chiffchaffs, a Green Woodpecker, two Reed Buntings, 6+ House Martins and five Cormorants. Also two Hairy Dragonflies, 8+ Emperors, 6+ Four-spotted Chasers and a Scarce Chaser. (Paul Clark).

Frampton     This morning a Spotted Flycatcher at the end of the wooded area along side the Perry Way N of Court Lake. (Nigel Young).

Aylburton Warth/Guscar Rocks     WeBS count today 21 Shelducks, four Grey Herons, an Oystercatcher, 15 Curlews, 21 Redshanks, 15 Herring Gulls, two Buzzards, ten Skylarks, two Meadow Pipit, three Reed Warblers, two Whitethroats, a Lesser Whitethroat, a Chiffchaff, three Ravens, 200 Carrion Crows and two Reed Buntings. Forest of Dean     Between Lower Lydney and Kearne Bridge this afternoon a female Mandarin with four ducklings, ten Swifts, 16 Swallows, 15 Canada Geese, six Mute Swans, also Mallards, Chiffchaffs, Willow Warblers and Goldcrests among commoner species. (Mark Makin).

Halmore     In the woods a Red Kite over high, a hunting Kestrel, three Buzzards, a family of Mistle Thrushes in a cherry tree, a Garden Warbler, two Great Spotted Woodpeckers, a Bullfinch, c12 Spotted Flycatchers and many Chiffchaffs and juvenile Goldfinches, also large emergences of Marbled Whites and Ringlets, several Small Skippers, a Red Admiral and a Small Tortoiseshell. Saul Warth     This morning at 116 Shelducks including 32 ducklings, 25 Mallards, three Grey Herons, a Red Kite, a male Marsh Harrier, a Kestrel, 16 Oystercatchers, ten Curlews, two Whitethroats and seven Swallows. (MK). A LITTLE TERN at 9:50am fishing around the Noose, before heading towards Awre. Then it lingered on and off off of WWT until 1:30pm at least. (Martin McGill).

Coombe Hill Meadows     This afternoon a Great White Egret, three Curlews, four Grey Herons, an Oystercatcher, a Lapwing, two Skylarks, five Reed Buntings, (3m, 2f), two Whitethroats, six Sedge Warblers, three Chiffchaffs, four Moorhens, five Mallards, a Red Kite, a Buzzard and a Kestrel. Frampton pools     This evening three Cattle Egrets, two Spotted Flycatchers, a Cuckoo, seven Common Terns, two Ravens, a Red Kite and a pair of Oystercatchers with two young. (Nick Goatman).

Tidenham    Around Oakhill Wood, six Ravens, a male Firecrest, eight Spotted Flycatchers, three Treecreepers including two juveniles, a pair of Bullfinches, four Crossbills and c20 Siskins including juveniles. Also a Marsh Tit and a Hawfinch heard only. (Andy Jayne).

Saul Warth     Early morning high tide 46 Shelducks + 27 ducklings, six Little Egrets, five Grey Herons, eight Oystercatchers, two Bar-tailed Godwits, a Whimbrel, 20 Curlews, 20 Avocets, a Ringed Plover, four Whitethroats, a Great Spotted Woodpecker and two House Martins. (MK).

Epney     A Red Kite and 20 Sand Martins at 9:09am. (MK).

Frampton    From Splatt Bridge early morning two Common Terns over the canal then the 100 acre, 10+ Reed Warblers singing and busy feeding young in the reeds, five Bullfinches, 15+ Greenfinches and fledgling Cetti’s Warblers, Chiffchaffs and Reed Buntings. (Steve Pullen).

Whittington     This morning on the track N of Whittington to Whitehall Farm a pair of Redstarts, a Song Thrush and a Red Kite. Butterflies seen included Small Blue, Small Heath, Small Tortoiseshell, Marbled White and many Meadow Browns. (Keith White).

Ashleworth Ham     A CES ringing session this morning caught 61 birds including two juvenile Redstarts, a juvenile Grasshopper Warbler, four Sedge Warblers, 15 Whitethroats, two Lesser Whitethroats, four Song Thrushes, two Linnets, a Bullfinch and nine Reed Buntings. Around the reserve four Greylags, a Curlew heard, two Cuckoos, a Willow Warbler and a Raven. (Mervyn Greening/Gordon Avery/Dave Kelly/Mike Smart). Rodborough     Five Crossbills over Winstone’s ice cream shop on the Common at midday today. Also Dark Green Fritillary, Small Blue, Common Blue, Small Heath and lots of Marbled Whites and Meadow Browns. (Mark Coller).

Stonehouse    At Stanley Downton a Goldfinch, six singing Whitethroats, four singing Wrens, a Red Kite, two Chiffchaffs, four Swallows, two House Martins and two Buzzards. Also a Small Tortoiseshell and a Meadow Brown. In the St Cyr’s Church area six Swallows, 15 House Martins and a Swift. (Paul Sutton).
