Saul Warth     High tide at 11:45am a Greenshank, 150+ Curlews, a Dunlin, three Ringed Plovers, 70+ Avocets, 107+ Shelducks, a Grey Heron, a Great White Egret, 12 Little Egrets, three Kestrels, a Little Owl and three Swallows. (MK). At 8pm a juvenile Peregrine hunting the foreshore and flats, three Kestrels, 27 Shelducks and c50 Curlews. (Paul Sutton).

Frampton     On Court Lake at 6:30pm two Common Terns, two Cattle Egret, at least three juvenile Great Crested Grebes, the Ross’s Goose and the Bar-headed x Snow Goose hybrid. (Paul Sutton).

Cotswold Water Park East     In the Whelford area birds included on Pit 111, 12 Red Crested Pochards, 20 Coots and four Great Crested Grebes. On Pit 111a a Garden Warbler, nine Gadwalls, three Great Crested Grebes and five Red Crested Pochards. On Pit 111b a Little Egret, 11. Red Crested Pochards, two Great Crested Grebes and 35 Cormorants. On Pit 126 11 Red Crested Pochards. (John Fletcher).

Guscar Rocks/Aylburton Warth     This morning at high tide birds included ten Canada Geese, three Snow Geese, four Shelducks, 30 Mallards, three Grey Herons, a Cormorant, a Kestrel, two Ringed Plovers, 460 Curlews (140 at Guscar, c320 at Aylburton), two Whimbrels, three Common Sandpipers, 150 Black-headed Gulls, 20 Stock Doves, 30 Swallows, five House Martins, c3 Skylarks, two Wheatears, a singing Chiffchaff and 80 Linnets. Thursday 8th August 2024

WWT Slimbridge     From Middle Point nine adult Turnstones and two breeding plumage Red Knot this morning. A juvenile Goshawk flew low over car park towards the canal late afternoon. (Slimbridge Sightings). Three Spotted Redshanks on the Rushy. (Oliver Paisey).

Broadoak     A distant Yellow-legged Gull on the Arlingham side this evening. (Andy Jayne).

Sapperton     This morning at Siccaridge Wood birds included Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Nuthatch, Bullfinches, Long-tailed Tits, Goldcrest, Chiffchaff, plenty of House Martins over, three Swifts and a Swallow. Also a fresh Green-veined White butterfly. (Jon Dexter).

Ashleworth Ham     A CES ringing session today birds caught included four Redstarts, three Sedge Warblers, 21 Whitethroats, two Lesser Whitethroats, three Willow Warblers, five Chiffchaffs, 12 Long-tailed Tits, a Treecreeper, a Linnet, 11 Bullfinches and ten Reed Buntings. On the reserve a Grey Heron, two Ravens and two Roe Deer. (Mervyn Greening/Mike Smart).

Wednesday 7th August 2024

Frampton pools     A Redstart, four Yellow Wagtails, two Common Sandpipers, a Hobby, a Reed Warbler still feeding young, two Common Terns and three young, two pairs of Goldcrests with young, an adult Yellow-legged Gull, 30+ Swifts, 20+ House Martins, 16 Blackcaps and 22 Chiffchaffs today. Saul Warth     Between 7:30-10am two Greenshanks, a Whimbrel heard, 81 Curlews, 115 Dunlins, 53 Avocets, 50 Shelducks, 15 Little Egrets, two Kestrels and a Little Owl briefly. For the second day running the flock of small waders flew off towards WWT before high tide. (MK).

Walmore Common     Six Whinchats again, but keeping low and elusive in the breezy weather. (Andy Jayne).

Longney Crib     This afternoon birds included a Common Sandpiper, 68 Mallards, 17 Canada Geese, 32 Greylags, five Little Egrets, five Linnets, two Swallows, four Great Black-backed Gulls and a Grey Heron. (John Fletcher).

Painswick     This afternoon 436 Swifts, 474 Swallows, 603 House Martins and 183 Sand Martins moving SW over the Painswick valley, passing over the house, between 2pm and 4:45pm. A Red Kite drifted over at 3:35pm. An immature Green Woodpecker flew through the garden at 7am, into the Rococo Gardens parkland. (John Fleming).

Coombe Hill Meadows     This morning 11 Little Egrets, two Great White Egrets, two Grey Herons, 14 Canada Geese, seven Mute Swans, two Buzzards, a Raven, three Redstarts, two Greenfinches, six Bullfinches and a Small Copper. Aylburton Warth     This morning birds included 26 Canada Geese, a female Shelduck with six ducklings, 30 Mallard, two Little Egrets, a Grey Heron, a Cormorant, two Oystercatchers, 191 Curlews, five Black-tailed Godwits, two Ravens, six Common Sandpipers, two Skylarks, ten Swallows, a Meadow Pipit, a Yellow Wagtail, two Reed Warblers, a Willow Warbler, 155 Carrion Crows, 15 Linnets and a Reed Bunting. WWT Slimbridge    From Zeiss hide a juvenile Goshawk flew through, a Red Kite circling, a juvenile Marsh Harrier, four Kestrels, three Common Cranes including a juvenile, five Black-tailed Godwits and a Spotted Redshank. Another Spotted Redshank from Hogarth hide. (Paul Clark). A juvenile Cuckoo hiding in the willows at the back of the Arctic Adventure this morning being fed by Reed Warblers. (Mike Davis).

Frampton     In bushes S of Saul Lodge this morning a juvenile Grasshopper Warbler, a Garden Warbler, 4+ Blackcaps and two Chiffchaffs. On the canal and flashes eight Little Egrets, a Grey Heron, three Kestrels, a Marsh Harrier, a Buzzard and a Common Tern. A Red Kite roosted at Saul Lodge in pines then flew off S. (MK). On the flashes at Splatt 6am-7am today a Peregrine Falcon, two juvenile Kestrels and a Red Kite over. Also three Reed Buntings and a Little Egret. On the canal, two Common Terns fishing and two Kingfishers. On the sailing lake a Great White Egret over and four Common Terns. (Steve Pullen). From Splatt Bridge at 8:45pm, a distant SHORT-EARED OWL and a Little Egret over. (Paul Sutton).
