Frampton     At Court Lake this evening a GREAT WHITE EGRET, 17 Little Egrets, 22 Cormorants, a Shoveler, a Tawny Owl, a Little Owl and a Bat sp. (Nick Goatman).

Forest of Dean     A male Blackcap singing steadily this afternoon in a garden at Forge Hill, Lydbrook. (Chris Sullivan).

Cotswolds     A Red Kite over a small copse along the A40 near Hazleton at 11am and a Red Kite over the Puesdown Inn along the A40 at 2pm. (Gord Avery).

Ashley     A Tawny Owl calling at 2:30am. (Mark Grieve).

Ashleworth Ham     Birds this morning included two Nuthatches, 20 Coots, a Treecreeper, 40 Mallards, 20 Lapwings, four Redwings, 30 Fieldfares and a Grey Heron. (Mike Beer).

Gloucester     A SAND MARTIN watched for 10 minutes over the pool at Horsebere Flood Storage lake yesterday evening (5th). (per Ian Elphick). Around Beaufort School, 13 Redwings, two Stock Doves and seven Goldfinches today. (John Fletcher).

Tewkesbury     At Severn Ham a Cormorant over, three Curlews, 4 or 5 Skylarks, some singing and at least three singing Reed Buntings. (Mike Smart).

Twyning     At Upham Meadow 50 Canada Geese, a Greylag, a female Peregrine, 2 or 3 pairs of Oystercatchers, 17 Curlews, a Skylark singing, four Mistle Thrushes and a Goldcrest singing. (Mike Smart).

Sunday 5th March 2017

Aylburton     An adult CATTLE EGRET present feeding in the fields at Aylburton Mead since mid-February until yesterday at least. Its on private land just behind the Lydney Estate Milking Unit SO625011 and can be scoped from the public footpath running parallel to the railway line on the Aylburton side. Also 27 Fieldfares and two Mallards. (Barrie Mills).

Sharpness     34 KITTIWAKES flew upstream past Sharpness picnic site at 2:50pm today. (Steve Preddy). Also a BLACK REDSTART still. (Paul Taylor).

Berkeley shore     Seven Turnstones, five Dunlins, 11 Curlews, an Oystercatcher and a female Shoveler early afternoon. (Paul Taylor).

Twyning     A Red Kite over and two male Reed Buntings in the garden today. (Phil & Chris Andrews).

Forest of Dean     The GREAT GREY SHRIKE still at Crabtree Hill this morning. (Luke Phillips).

Ashley     15 Goldfinches, 14 singing Skylarks, 66 Fieldfares, 120+ Linnets, 36+ Yellowhammers, 100+ Chaffinches, four Reed Buntings, a Lapwing N, three Buzzards, a Kestrel, four Pied Wagtails, three Stonechats, seven Stock Doves, two Redwings and nine Roe Deer today. (Mark Grieve).

Frampton     At Court lake three Goldeneyes, the GREAT WHITE EGRET still, 45 Tufted Ducks, 30+ Siskins, 20+Goldfinches and four CATTLE EGRETS came in to roost. (Nick Goatman).

Gloucester     There’s been a big Starling roost/murmuration of 3000+ birds the past two evenings at least Wed/Thu at the old brick-pits at Walham between 5:30 and 6:15pm at SO822199, last night being pursued by a small falcon, possibly Merlin, also a Sparrowhawk. Safest viewing is from the Maisemore Road SO817200 or walk to the riverbank footpath from the Maisemore Road or upstream along the path from Westgate to cSO821197. Forest of Dean     Two GREAT GREY SHRIKES seen at the same time at Crabtree Hill at midday. (Angela Carswell). A GREAT GREY SHRIKE in the clearing at Yew Tree Brake. At Crabtree Hill two Crossbills, a female Stonechat and a Goshawk. Four Hawfinches at Parkend under the yew trees at Crown Lane. Seven Goosanders at Mallards Pike. (Tony Eveleigh/Ian Bollen). Also a Dipper at Parkend. (Jon Mercer). Very disturbing report from Parkend today of birders/photographers getting too close to the Hawfinches and foul language/threats of violence when they were asked not to. If you are visiting Parkend please keep your distance from the birds and respect others there. If you walk through the trees the birds will go and no-one will see them.

Frampton     Two BRAMBLINGS with Chaffinches along Watery Lane (the lane down to the Sailing Club from car park) at 10am. Four Red Crested Pochards (3m, 1f) on the Sailing Lake and pair of Goldeneye on Court Lake. (Gordon Youdale). 31 WAXWINGS on the E side of Frampton Green at 2pm then flew towards Court Lake/Lodge. (Jon Mercer).

Along the River Avon, from Tewkesbury northwards two Green Sandpipers on a pool at SO 8935. At Mitton, on a wet patch by the marina, just in Gloucestershire, 600 Wigeon, 400 Teal and eight Shovelers.
