Quedgeley     A male Blackcap in the garden today, first of the winter. (MK).

Gloucester     At Horsebere Brook Flood Storage Lake today three Mute Swans, four Wigeon (1m), nine Teal, 16 Mallards, a Grey Heron, six Coots, ten Moorhens, four Snipe, 73 Black-headed Gulls, two Common Gulls, three Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 12 Herring Gulls and male and female Stonechats. Birdlip    This afternoon in the field by the A417 junction with the Birdlip road 381 Golden Plovers and 20 Skylarks. Also nearby, further E in woods around Cuckoopen Farm a Brambling in with a small flock of Chaffinches. (Martine Fenn).

Bourton-on-the-Water     On Bourton Pits 220 Lapwings circling over the South Pit. Also 78 Wigeon, two Gadwalls, a Red Kite and a Sparrowhawk.  On the North Pits, four Shovelers and two Mandarins. (Andy Lewis).

Ashley     170+ Linnets, 175 +Fieldfares, 70+ Redwings, two Corn Buntings, 27+ Yellowhammers, four Bullfinches and a Mistle Thrush. (Mark Grieve).

Friday 16th December 2016

Arlingham     A RICHARD’S PIPIT this morning at SO719117 in a small, narrow, rough field on the edge of the river with a small, mistletoe-covered hawthorn in the middle of it. It flew across the river twice to Rodley, behaving much like the autumn bird so possibly the same bird.  (Andy Jayne). Tewkesbury     Belated news of the female BLACK REDSTART still showing on the Abbey webcam on the Peregrine tray at 1:30pm yesterday (15th). (David Bagley).

Rodley shore (Lower Dumball to Longney Crib)     Three Skylarks, five Meadow Pipits, five Stonechats, a Cetti’s Warbler singing three times from reeds along river and at least eight Reed Buntings in reeds along river. (Mike Smart).

Cotswold Water Park West     A pair of Goosanders on Pit 57 and two pairs on Pit 44. Also two drake Goldeneyes on Pit 43. (Jon Mercer).

Twyning     S over the Great Hay Meadow 40 Golden Plovers at 11:55am and nine Golden Plovers at 12:28pm with 300 Lapwings. (Gordon Avery).

Leckhampton Hill     A Tawny Owl at 2:30am today. (Mark Grieve).

Awre     On the Awre peninsula three Rock Pipits, three Meadow Pipits and a male Stonechat today. (Mike Smart).

Cotswold Water Park West      A BITTERN flew into the reed bed on the far side of Pit 57 mid morning.  Also 101 Red-crested Pochards on Pit 44. (Chris Stott).

Tewkesbury     Again no sign of the Eastern Black Redstart at Tewkesbury Abbey or the Black Redstart but a pair of Peregrines. (Terry Fenton/Bob Fryer).

Saul     At least three CATTLE EGRETS still at Saul at 9:25am in trees on the SW side of the pond to the W of the road through the village, viewed from the public footpath. (Ceri Jones).

Down Ampney     A Barn Owl at 3am today.  (Mark Grieve).

Witcombe Reservoirs     Seven Little Grebes, eight Teal and ten Cormorants today. (Gordon Avery).

Saul     Three CATTLE EGRETS still present morning and afternoon feeding with up to

Forest of Dean     At Crabtree Hill today the GREAT GREY SHRIKE, c50 Lesser Redpolls and small flocks of Siskin. (Derek Hale).

Saul     Three CATTLE EGRETS and seven Little Egrets feeding at the lake, W of the B4071 in Saul on a footpath opposite Church Lane and the church at 2:30pm. Also four Shovelers and a Kingfisher. (Roy Widgery).

WWT Slimbridge     A drake Goosander on the River Severn, resting on a low tide pool below the spartina shelf, viewed distantly from the Holden Tower. (Slimbridge Sightings).

Cirencester     A Little Egret flew over the A419 today. (Mark Grieve).

Tewkesbury     A male EASTERN BLACK REDSTART on the eastern side of Tewkesbury Abbey (originally reported as Black Redstart) for its 5th day. This is the first record for Gloucestershire. A GREAT WHITE EGRET was beside the River Avon near Tewkesbury Sailing Club this morning then flew off N. (Sarah Loaring).

Coombe Hill Meadows    Five Mute Swans, 150 Greylags, 40 Canada Geese, three Grey Herons, 1000 Wigeon, c100 Teal, four Gadwalls, eight Pintails, ten Shovelers, a Water Rail heard, 150 Lapwings, a Golden Plover, five Snipe, three Skylarks, 1 or 2 Meadow Pipits, 75 Redwings and 50 Fieldfares along the canal and 1 or 2 Bullfinches today. Berkeley shore     200+ Lapwings, 18 Canada Geese, 16 Redshanks, three Shelducks and 40 Wigeon. (Andrew Jones).

Woodmancote     In the garden today two Blackcaps, two Siskins and two Lesser Redpolls. (John Widgery).

Chedworth     In all the fields, hedges and gardens on Field Road flocks of 1000+ Redwings, Fieldfares and Blackbirds. Later in the area 50+ Linnets with numerous flocks of 20+ Chaffinches, c6 Bullfinches, six Yellowhammers, a Goldfinch, a Buzzard, a Kestrel, six Skylarks, a Green Woodpecker and a Goldcrest and a constant steam of thrushes migrating E to W. (Chris Berens).

Bussage     In Frith Wood early morning five Jays, a Treecreeper, a Mistle Thrush and a female Sparrowhawk. Garden birds included two Greenfinches, a Nuthatch, a female Bullfinch and a pair of Collared Doves. (Michael Cook).

Tewkesbury     An EASTERN BLACK REDSTART has present been on Tewkesbury Abbey tower for the last 4 days. It has made several brief visits to the Peregrine nesting tray – see clip here. (David Bagley).

Sharpness     Two female/first-winter BLACK REDSTARTS still this morning, one at the end of Dock Road and one by Gate 1. (Andy Jordan).

WWT Slimbridge     An OTTER from Zeiss hide this morning. Also the Little Stint still on the Rushy. (Paul Daunter).

Cotswold Water Park East     This morning a Chiffchaff, two Cetti’s Warblers, a Kingfisher and five Water Rails at Pit 125. (Ian Ralphs).

Eastleach      3000+ Fieldfares and Redwings in a field south of Eastleach Downs Farm. Also 250 Linnets and three Corn Buntings. (Ian Ralphs).

Ashleworth Ham     This morning three Mute Swans, 58 Greylags, three Canada Geese, c800 Wigeon, six Gadwall, c460 Teal, c110 Mallards, 19 Pintails, 32 Shovelers, a female Sparrowhawk, c420 Lapwings, 11 Snipe, two Grey Herons, six Coots, two Goldcrests, two Nuthatches and a Raven. (Les Brown).

Cheltenham     In Hatherley a female Great Spotted Woodpecker in the garden this morning, a garden tick. (Mike Beer).
