Hawling     This morning in the Southdown Farm area 1600+ Fieldfares and 1000 Redwings.  Also three Corn Buntings, a Red Kite, Red-legged Partridge and 300 Golden Plovers with Lapwings by Hampen Farm. (Chris Stott).

Wednesday 7th December 2016

Forest of Dean     A GREAT GREY SHRIKE at Crabtree Hill at 10:30am today. (Ivan Proctor). 12+ Crossbills at Nagshead this afternoon feeding in pines at the heath on the Long Trail. Also 30+ Lesser Redpolls around the Nursery Meadows still. (Lewis Thomson). At least 12 Bramblings in a flock of 100+ Chaffinches above and E of Soudley Ponds. (Frank Williams).

WWT Slimbridge     Two BITTERNS from the Van de Bovenkamp hide this afternoon. A first-winter Goldeneye on South Lake. (Martin Greenish/Slimbridge Sightings).

Saul     Three CATTLE EGRETS in the horse paddocks at SO746087 at 8:10am today. (Roy Widgery).

Forest of Dean     49 Mandarins(31m,18f) stood together on an ice patch on the pond near the Stoneworks, also a Grey Wagtail and a Pied Wagtail. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Symonds Yat     From Yat Rock viewpoint the Peregrine pair, two Buzzards, resident Ravens, Long-Tailed Tits, six Bullfinches, a Song Thrush, three Jays and two Great Spotted Woodpeckers. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Longlevens     A Little Egret at midday today, flying W at the back of Park Avenue, near to the Northern bypass. (Pam Bryant).

Cheltenham     A Grey Wagtail at the Ladies college. Also a Pied Wagtail feeding under street lights at 2am in Winchcombe Street. (Mark Grieve).

Cotswold Water Park East     A BITTERN flushed from the reeds by a dog, then dropped into reeds on NW shore. Also a Green Sandpiper today. (Ian Ralphs).

Cotswold Water Park West     This afternoon at Shorncote Reedbed a Little Egret, four Water Rails heard, 35 Teal, five Shovelers, two Snipe, 40 Lapwings, two Buzzards, a Green Woodpecker, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, three Meadow Pipits, 15 Pied Wagtails, a Grey Wagtail, two pairs of Stonechats, c200 mixed Fieldfares and Redwings, four Cetti’s Warblers calling, a pair of Bullfinches and eight Reed Buntings. Brimscombe    A Dipper was alongside the Mill at Brimscombe Port at dusk this evening. (Trevor & Sue Clayson).

Coombe Hill Meadows     Seven Mute Swans, 395 Greylags, six Canada Geese, 190 Wigeon, 100 Teal, two Gadwalls, 20 Mallards, three Grey Herons, a Little Egret, two Buzzards, a Sparrowhawk, seven Coots, a Water Rail in Broadmere, 12 Lapwings, a Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming, three Skylarks, five Meadow Pipits, eight Pied Wagtails, 150 Fieldfares and 50 Redwings roosting in hedges. Symonds Yat     From Yat Rock viewpoint the resident Peregrines and an intruding Peregrine, a female Sparrowhawk, which was attacked by the Peregrines, two Buzzards, two Ravens, Long-tailed Tits, Redwings, four Song Thrushes, a Goldcrest, a Treecreeper, two Jays, a pair of Mandarins, two Fallow Deer and a Bank Vole today. Cranham     A Raven picking at a Pheasant carcass very early this morning just outside Cranham on the Bisley to Birdlip Road. (Michael Cook).

Chapman’s Cross     Three Grey Partridges near Badminton Plantation and 150 Golden Plovers in the adjacent field at lunchtime. (Michael Cook).

Coates     On the canal towpath at Tunnel House this afternoon a mixed flock of finches including several Bramblings, Chaffinches, Redpolls, Goldfinches working through the tree canopy. (Michael Cook).

Frampton     Four CATTLE EGRETS and four GREAT WHITE EGRETS left the roost on Court Lake at 7:30am. (Nick Goatman). Four CATTLE EGRETS and 26 Little Egrets had roosted on Court Lake by 4:40pm. (Paul Taylor). Also the first-winter male Goldeneye still on Court Lake. (Les Ditchburn).

Berkeley     A JACK SNIPE and three Snipe at Whitcliff Park late afternoon. (Paul Taylor).

Coombe Hill Meadows     This morning 264 Greylags,  175 Canada Geese,  c1750 Wigeon, c1000 Teal, 17 Mallards, 13 Pintails, two Shovelers, a Little Egret, two Grey Herons, a Sparrowhawk, 13 Coots, 125 Lapwings, two Stonechats (m & f), c30 Pied Wagtails and two Meadow Pipits. (Les Brown/Ian Hull).
