Coombe Hill Meadows     Mid-morning a pair of Canada Geese and five goslings and an adult, two Teal, 20 Mallards, 25 Little Egrets, six Grey Herons, a Peregrine, a Coot with chicks, a pair of Avocets with three large young, a pair of Little Ringed Plovers with two juveniles and another migrant juvenile, 15+ migrant Lapwings in addition to local breeders, still with chicks and a Dunlin. Ashleworth Ham     CES ringing session caught c140 birds including three Redstarts, four Sedge Warblers, c20 Whitethroats, two juvenile Lesser Whitethroats, six Blackcaps, six Chiffchaffs, a juvenile Willow Warbler, six Long-tailed Tits, six Linnets, two juvenile Bullfinches and eight juvenile Reed Buntings. Gloucester     At Horsbere Brook FSA this morning a Buzzard over low, being mobbed by gulls before drifting off eastwards. Birds still singing included a Reed Warbler, four Reed Buntings and a Whitethroat, and at least five Skylarks singing over the adjacent farmland. (Caroline Quinn).

WWT Slimbridge     The WHITE-SPOTTED BLUETHROAT showed a few times on stick perches in the reed bed at Middle Point between 10:15am and midday. WWT Slimbridge     A Whinchat and a juvenile Stonechat on the cross fence at Middle Point all day. Also from Middle Point two SPOONBILLS briefly on the rising tide, a Little Egret, 50+ Sand Martins, at least four Swifts. The drake eclipse GARGANEY still from Zeiss hide and the BITTERN seen dropping into the reed bed, then at 2pm flying from the reeds by the Zeiss hide towards the Van de Bovenkamp hide. On South Lake two Spotted Redshanks, four Ruffs and an adult Mediterranean Gull. A Goshawk flew past Kingfisher hide. Three Green Sandpipers from Robbie Garnett hide at 4pm. Shuthonger     A Great White Egret along the River Avon early morning, between Woodend Lane and Croft Farm on the Glos side. (Sarah Loaring).

Winchcombe    Garden birds today included Great Spotted Woodpecker (seen daily), a Green Woodpecker calling, several Goldfinches, including juveniles, a Coal Tit, a Goldcrest and 12+ Long-tailed Tits, some using the suet feeders. (Andrew & Gill Worthington).

WWT Slimbridge     The WHITE-SPOTTED BLUETHROAT gave brief showings between 8:20-9:30am on stick 1. Also two immature SPOONBILLS flew N, then a bit later back S, 15 Avocets, a Little Egret and a juvenile Cuckoo. On the fields by the estuary 80+ Curlews over high tide. Two summer plumaged Spotted Redshanks still on S Lake with a black, and a ginger, male Ruffs, 23 Redshanks, 104 Black-tailed Godwits, an Avocet, and a Little Ringed Plover. Coombe Hill Meadows     A Hobby hunting over the scrapes late morning was chased off by a Lapwing. Also three Redshanks, a Green Sandpiper, two adult Little Ringed Plovers with one fledged chick, two adult Avocets with one fledged chick, a pair of Mute Swans with seven large cygnets, eight Lapwings, two Oystercatchers, a juvenile Pied Wagtail, a juvenile Yellow Wagtail, a Sand Martin with the House Martins and Swifts hawking over the scrapes, six Little Egrets and three Grey Herons. On the canal path several singing Sedge Warblers, a singing Garden Warbler, a singing Willow Warbler, a singing Lesser Whitethroat, nine Whitethroats, six Bullfinches and a Kingfisher near the car park at lunchtime.
