Berkeley shore     A RED-THROATED PIPIT at 10:55am flew over S calling before circling back N and lost to view over Severn House Farm. Also a Whimbrel and a female MERLIN. (Paul Taylor).

Highnam Woods     Six Bullfinches, two Buzzards, a Sparrowhawk, a Raven, a Jay, a Great Spotted Woodpecker and 12 Redwings today. (Mark Grieve).

Monday 23rd October 2017

Cleeve Hill      This morning a ringtail HEN HARRIER flew W over Postlip Valley at 12:30pm. A GREAT GREY SHRIKE and male and female RING OUZEL were near the Washpool and there was at least one Corn Bunting with 50+ Skylarks at West Down. Overhead migrants included three Bramblings, 200 Chaffinches and four Lesser Redpolls. Also a Kestrel, a Green Woodpecker, two Ravens, 11 Fieldfares, 220 Redwings and two Mistle Thrushes. Forest of Dean     A probable Great Grey Shrike seen briefly silhouetted at top of a field maple, then moved to a beech tree and disappeared at Forge Hill, Lydbrook at 2:30pm. (Chris Sullivan).

Rodley     40 Ruff in a huge ploughed field opposite Epney, feeding with gulls and Lapwings. Also a Wheatear in the same field, and an adult Mediterranean Gull with Black-headed Gulls in fields nearby. (John & Viv Phillips).

Epney     A Yellow-legged Gull, 12 Ruff, a Kingfisher and a Stonechat off Epney tonight at dusk. (Jeremy Squire).

Tewkesbury     A Red-legged Partridge on the garden lawn this morning, a garden tick. (Les Ditchburn).

Stroud     VisMig at Horns Road this morning a Crossbill, seven Bramblings, 125 Chaffinches, 72 Redwings, seven Song Thrushes, a Mistle Thrush, 20 Meadow Pipits, 11 Linnets, 14 Greenfinches and three Siskins. Also a Hawfinch over Bisley Road. (Francis Steuck).

Cleeve Hill     Four RING OUZELS, 57+ Skylarks, 95+ Linnets, 35+ Redwings, three Bullfinches, a Jay, two Mistle Thrushes, two Stonechats, a Yellowhammer and a scattering of Blackbirds across the hill. (Mark Grieve).

WWT Slimbridge     Presumed Semipalmated Sandpiper with three Little Stints from Zeiss hide again, but distance hampering definite ID, also three Dark-bellied Brent Geese flew upriver, the Red-breasted Goose of unknown origin still with the feral Barnacle Goose flock and a Little Ringed Plover on the Rushy. (Slimbridge Sightings).

Ashleworth Ham     This afternoon five Shovelers, four Teal, ten Mallards, two Grey Herons, two Nuthatches, 36 Goldfinches, male and female Stonechats, a Buzzard, 12 Linnets and five Redwings. (John Fletcher).

Stonehouse     A Tawny Owl calling from around the garden last week in Bridgend, also 14th and 18th at 10pm. Kingfishers regular on the canal near St Cyr’s church and below on the Frome, most of the week and Cormorants over. More Jays around along the Ebley by pass and cycle track opposite Wycliffe college than for a while.
