Forest of Dean     This morning 6+ Swifts, 20+ House Martins, four Swallows, a Treecreeper, a Whitethroat, 3+ Willow Warblers and 2+ Chiffchaffs at Woorgreens Lake. At Crabtree Hill and Yew Tree Brake this morning four Stonechats including a male feeding fledged young and 3+ Crossbills. (Frank Williams).

Tirley     In the hedgerow above the cottage, three Chiffchaffs, two Lesser Whitethroats, ten Swallows, 12 Mistle Thrushes, ten House Martins, four Willow Warblers, a Great Spotted Woodpecker and three Spotted Flycatchers (2 ads, 1 juv). (Mark Grieve).

Gloucester     A Spotted Flycatcher at Sandhurst this morning and 20+ Swifts over Horsbere Brook Flood Storage Lake this evening. (Martin Greenish).

Coombe Hill Meadows     A pair of Mute Swans with four cygnets, 95 Greylags, 28 Canada Geese, five Gadwalls, seven Little Egrets, 40 Lapwings, a Green Sandpiper, 30 Swallows, a Cetti’s Warbler heard, a Sedge Warbler, two Willow Warblers and five Chiffchaffs. Also a Red Kite, a male Sparrowhawk, three Little Ringed Plovers, four Dunlins, two Common Sandpipers, c500 Rooks, six Linnets, two Grey Herons, 35 Mallards and a pair of Stonechats. Other sightings included Common Darter, Ruddy Darter, Brown Hawker, Common Blue Damselflies, an Emerald Damselfly and Green-veined, Large and Small Whites and Speckled Wood butterflies. Wednesday 10th August 2016

Gloucester     At Horsbere Brook Flood Storage Lake today four Mute Swans (2 ads, 2 cygnets), 14 Mallards, three Grey Herons, a Little Egret, 16 Moorhens, 12 Coots, a Buzzard, a female Stonechat, 2+ Whinchats and a Raven. (Gord Avery). Two Common Terns flying high over the Cattle Market this evening. (Mike Smart).

Coombe Hill Meadows     Today six Whinchats, four Redstarts seen and at least four others calling, three Dunlins,  three Little Ringed Plovers, four Green Sandpipers, 30+ Lapwings, a Lesser Whitethroat, three Whitethroats and still good numbers of Sedge Warbler along the ditches feeding young. A visiting birding reported a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker on the towpath by the Grundon hide. (Ian Hull).

Bussage     Three Ravens over the Toadsmoor Valley earlier today and on the large lake a Little Grebe and two Common Terns, in the woods several Long-tailed Tits and three Bullfinches. (Michael Cook).

Brimscombe     A Dipper on the Frome at SO891024 and a pair of Grey Wagtails. (Michael Cook).

Tarlton     This afternoon a Wheatear on Sandpool Lane between Tarlton and Coates at ST950988 and a Meadow Pipit. (Michael Cook).

Frampton      At the Sailing Lake early morning an adult Yellow-legged Gull, two Lesser Whitethroats, six Reed Warblers, four Linnets and 12 Pied Wagtails. (Nick Goatman).

Leighterton     A female-type Black Redstart briefly at 10am on the side of the harrowed field immediately E of the entrance to Bennett’s Farm, but not relocated within the next hour. (Geoff Moyser).

Tresham     A female/immature Whinchat and a Corn Bunting this afternoon near Hatherall’s Barn in a wheat field between Tresham and the A46. (Vic Polley).

Cherington     A Redstart near a grassy slope off the road to Aston Farm at ST903989. (Vic Polley).

Hasfield Ham     Four Whinchats and two Redstarts this afternoon. (Martin Greenish).

Coombe Hill Meadows     A pair of Mute Swans with four cygnets, 95 Greylags, 23 Canada Geese, six Teal, seven Gadwalls, 40 Mallards, 13 Little Egrets, four Grey Herons, a Cormorant, 32 Lapwings, three Little Ringed Plovers, four Snipe, 5+ Green Sandpipers, 1 or 2 Skylarks, a Whinchat, five Redstarts, five Sedge Warblers, family party of five Whitethroats, 2+ Chiffchaffs, ten Linnets and male and female Yellowhammers. Cobney Meadows     A Mandarin and three Redstarts today. (Mike Smart).

Tewkesbury     A pair of Egyptian Geese back on the River Avon near Tewkesbury marina. (Sarah Loaring).

Frampton     At the Sailing Lake this morning a Wheatear, three Lesser Whitethroats, four Willow Warblers, six Reed Warblers, 12 Common Terns, 12 Pied Wagtails and a Curlew. (Nick Goatman).

Forest of Dean     At Woorgreens Stock Doves and six Song Thrushes feeding together on Yew berries. Also Common Darters and Black-tailed Skimmers, Common Blue Damselflies, Speckled Wood, Gatekeeper, Small and Green-veined Whites, Meadow Brown and Holly Blue butterflies. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Symonds Yat     In the Yat Rock area the resident Peregrine pair and their juvenile male, a Hobby through, Ravens, Buzzards, a Bullfinch, a Marsh Tit, Stock Doves, a juvenile Green Woodpecker and a juvenile Grey Heron. Other sightings included Silver-washed Fritillaries, Red Admiral, Speckled Wood, Gatekeeper, Small and Large Whites and Holly Blue butterflies and a Fallow Deer. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Haresfield    At Haresfield Beacon two Ravens flying E and another Raven flying around the Beacon. A pair of Linnets, a male Blackcap, Willow Warblers, a Jay, a few Bullfinches heard, a Whitethroat and two Mistle Thrushes in the field opposite Shortwood Hill carpark. At 8:15am a Muntjac crossed the main path through Standish Woods. (Marie-Claire Chapman).

Edge     At Rudge Hill NNR four Spotted Flycatchers (2 juv), 12. Meadow Pipits, three Bullfinches, a male Kestrel, two Buzzards, five Chiffchaffs, a family party, a Treecreeper, a Goldcrest and seven Long-tailed Tits. (John Fletcher).

Roel Gate     A juvenile/female Marsh Harrier this evening drifting E between Roel Hill and Hawling Lodge. (Richard Tyler).

Coombe Hill Meadows     Three Little Egrets, 43 Lapwings, two Little Ringed Plovers, a male Ruff, a Common Sandpiper, five Green Sandpipers, a Redshank, a Snipe, three Lesser Whitethroats and three Whinchats today. Also two Brown Hawkers and two Migrant Hawkers. (Andy Jayne).

Whiteshill/Haresfield     Three Spotted Flycatchers in the alpaca fields at Bird-in-hand. A pair of Bullfinches in the garden of the abandoned house next to Shortwood Hill, Haresfield. Three more Spotted Flycatchers in the field opposite Shortwood Hill carpark. Also in Standish woods a Great Spotted Woodpecker, a Nuthatch and Treecreepers. (Marie-Claire Chapman).

Frampton      At the pools this evening a Spotted Flycatcher, two Lesser Whitethroats, two Kingfishers, five Willow Warblers, three Oystercatchers, 11 Common Terns, two Mediterranean Gulls and five Curlews. (Nick Goatman).

Tirley/ Tirley Sandpits     A Tawny Owl calling at 1am, a Green Woodpecker, 32+ Swallows, 12+ Chiffchaffs, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, 12+ Willow Warblers, 28+ House Martins, two Blackcaps, two Spotted Flycatchers, 22 Canada Geese over, a Meadow Pipit, 7+ Skylarks, 39 Greylags over, four Whitethroats, male a Sparrowhawk, six Stock Doves, 25+ House Sparrows, a Lesser Whitethroat, a Swift over S, a male Redstart and a Pied Wagtail over. Tirley Sandpits     10+ Chiffchaffs, three Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 17+ Swallows, five Stock Doves, two Redstarts (male and female ), 11+ Willow Warblers, a Grey Heron over, 15+ House Martins, seven Whitethroats, three Spotted Flycatchers, two Skylarks, three Yellow Wagtails (2 juveniles), 50+ House Sparrows feeding on maize, three Lesser Whitethroats, a Blackcap and seven Bullfinches. Also a garden Chiffchaff. Birdlip    A juvenile Cuckoo flushed from a hedge on a minor road S of Birdlip, and 30+ House Martins feeding over the village. A Raven over at Edgeworth. (Jon Mercer).

Twyning     At Upham Meadow still three juvenile Curlews and at least 15 Skylarks today. (Mike Smart).

Symonds Yat     From Yat Rock viewpoint the Peregrine pair and their juvenile male, Buzzards, Ravens, a calling Goshawk, a Spotted Flycatcher, a Grey Heron, ten Goosanders on the Wye, Stock Doves, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, a Green Woodpecker, Song Thrushes, Jays, Swifts, Swallows and House Martins. Butterflies included Holly Blue, Comma, Common Blue and Holly Blue, Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown, Red Admiral, Small, Large, Green-veined Whites and a Silver-washed Fritillary. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Forest of Dean     At Nagshead a Treecreeper, a Golden-ringed Dragonfly (pic), a pair of Southern Hawkers, two Emperors (pic), a Common Darter, Azure and Emerald Damselflies, Small White, Peacock and Red Admiral butterflies. In the Parkend Church area a Silver-washed Fritillary, Green-veined and Small Whites and Ringlet butterflies. Coaley     A Green Sandpiper on a small lake below Twyning Ash house still this morning. Also a Kingfisher, two Sparrowhawks and a female Tufted Duck with two juveniles. (MK).

Quedgeley     A flock of 27 Cormorants flew NW over the garden at 4:50pm. The previous high count was 2 in a total of 6 since 1984. (MK).

Gretton     A Hobby low over the garden at 5pm heading W. (Sheila Wasley/Anne Boneham).

Painswick Beacon     Birds today included 64 Swifts, 28 Ravens, 305 Swallows, 1600 House Martins and three Crossbills. (John Fleming).

Longlevens     A pair of adult Grey Wagtails feeding on the garden pond waterfall this morning. (Frank Bryant). Still 4+ Swifts near a nesting area today. (Mark Grieve).

Tirley     A garden Chiffchaff and in the hedge above the cottage still three Spotted Flycatchers, three Willow Warblers and two Chiffchaffs. (Mark Grieve).

Ebworth     At Overtown Farm birds included an OSPREY at 1:20pm, which arrived from the NE, circled a few times over the farm being mobbed by a gull, then circled up high and moved away westwards, a Hobby, two Red Kites, a Whimbrel, 1770 Swallows, 1445 House Martins, 635 Swifts, 64 Linnets, ten Yellowhammers, 19 Goldfinches,  at least three Corn Buntings and six Buzzards present.(John Fleming). Painswick Beacon     Birds today included 281 House Martins, 166 Swifts, 14 Swallows and 15 Greenfinches. (John Fleming).

Twyning    At Upham Meadow six flying juvenile Curlews still present, a Mute Swan and two cygnets, 45 Canada Geese, two Greylags, three Buzzards, two Kestrels, 100+ Swallows, 20 House Martins, three Skylarks and one or two Sedge Warblers. (Mike Smart).

Frampton pools     An adult Yellow-legged Gull on the Sailing Lake this morning. Later a Hobby, four Swifts, three juvenile Common Terns flying around the Sailing Lake, two Willow Warblers, 20+ Chiffchaffs and five Curlews over. (Nick Goatman).

Ashleworth Ham     Birds today included a male Wigeon, five Grey Herons, four Buzzard, 17 Swallows, a Whitethroat, three Linnets, a Kingfisher and a Nuthatch. (John Fletcher).

Walmore Common     A Hobby, two Snipe, 70 Swallows, 12 Mistle Thrushes, a Redstart and a Whinchat today. (Andy Jayne).

Tewkesbury     At Tewkesbury N.R. three Redstarts, a Lesser Whitethroat and a flock of c60 Goldfinches today. (Ian Hull). A Swift over S. (Mark Grieve).

Coombe Hill Meadows     This morning four Green Sandpipers, a Common Sandpiper, a Whinchat, a male Redstart and c12 ‘fresh’ Chiffchaffs and Willow Warblers in the willows at Grundon Hide. (Ian Hull).

Eastleach     A Willow Tit on a garden feeder near Eastleach this morning, also a Coal Tit and several Long-tailed Tits. (Michael Cook).

Tirley     In the hedge above the cottage three Spotted Flycatchers, a male Redstart, a Lesser Whitethroat, a Chiffchaff, 15+ House Martins, a Bullfinch and a Swift over S. At Haw Bridge 28 Swallows on wires. (Mark Grieve).

Symonds Yat     From the Yat Rock area today the resident Peregrines, their juvenile male and an intruding juvenile female Peregrine, four Buzzards, Ravens, Stock Doves, a Marsh Tit, two Jays, a Green Woodpecker, a Great Spotted Woodpecker and a Tawny Owl calling. Other sightings included Holly Blue, Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown, a Speckled Wood, Green-veined, Small and Large White butterflies, Hummingbird Hawk Moths, three adult Fallow Deer and a fawn, a Wood Mouse and a Bank Vole. Coombe Hill Meadows     A pair of Mute Swans with four cygnets, a Greylag, three juvenile Shelducks, two Little Egrets, three Grey Herons, three Lapwings, two Green Sandpipers, a Common Sandpiper, a Reed Warbler, 3+ Sedge Warblers, 1 or 2 juvenile Chiffchaffs and at least four Whinchats still. Twyning    At Upham Meadow all the hay has now been cut, but still six newly-fledged juvenile Curlews today. (Mike Smart).
