Cotswold Water Park West     No sign of the Little Bittern today at Shorncote Reedbed in poor weather conditions, it is likely to still be present. Also the BITTERN seen in flight at lunchtime. WWT Slimbridge    On the river this evening 11 Curlews, 15 Ringed Plovers, three Dunlins and eight Sanderlings and a Turnstone. (Martin McGill).

Frampton pools     This evening 200+ Swifts, six Common Terns, a Yellow Wagtail, the first Great Crested Grebe chicks and the Oystercatcher pair but no sign of the chick this evening. (Nick Goatman).

Monday 5th June 2017

Cotswold Water Park West     The LITTLE BITTERN still at Shorncote Reedbed today, it showed three times by 6am, but not again by 10am. It settled unseen in the reeds on the right hand bank of the Pit in front of the first hide. Also the BITTERN booming early on and seen in flight at 7:07am and 7:37am, two Hobbies through and a Cuckoo. (MK/Nigel Sluman). Ashleworth Ham     Mid afternoon a pair of Shelducks with seven ducklings, a Curlew, an Oystercatcher, a Lapwing, a pair of Teal, a Little Egret, a Raven, two Chiffchaffs, two Blackcaps, seven Swallows and a Kestrel. (John Fletcher).

Cotswold Water Park West     The LITTLE BITTERN still at Shorncote Reedbed today, showed three time before 8am, then a brief flight view at 11:40am and again sat out for 15 minutes at 4:45pm. Ashley     10+ Skylarks, 8+ Swallows, two Great Spotted Woodpeckers, a Pied Wagtail, five Buzzards, two Chiffchaffs, three Blackcaps, 12 Stock Doves, 7+ House Martins, five Yellowhammers, 6+ Swifts, a Kestrel, four Whitethroats, two Bullfinches and a Willow Warbler. (Mark Grieve).

Halmore     Two pairs of Whitethroats nesting in uncut hedges, a Peregrine flew over this morning, and yesterday a female Sparrowhawk in the garden. Also a nest of caterpillars of the rare Small Eggar moth found, apparently not recorded from Glos for some time. (Chris Newton).

Saturday 3rd June 2017

Cotswold Water Park West     No sign of the LITTLE BITTERN by 6pm today. A BITTERN flew over Pit 85b twice late morning. Also an Egyptian Goose and two Kingfishers. A LITTLE BITTERN at Shorncote Reedbed yesterday (2nd) seen to fly from the reeds of Pit 85a across the water of Pit 85B at 3:55pm and then at 4:05pm it flew back across the water of Pit 85B and went into the reeds of Pit 85a on the cycle path side that is totally hidden by a large hedgerow. Brimpsfield     A Spotted Flycatcher on wires today. (Mark Grieve).

Quedgeley     A garden Lesser Whitethroat in Shelduck Road today. (Steve Pullen).

Newnham-on-Severn     A Cetti’s Warbler, a Sedge Warbler, Goldfinches, a Buzzard and a Whitethroat. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Forest of Dean     At Moseley Green a Great Spotted Woodpecker, Jays, a Buzzard, Chiffchaffs, Willow Warblers and Blackcaps. Also Small Heath and Speckled Wood butterflies. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Highnam Woods     Two Nightingales still singing this morning. (Fiona & Peter Leathart).

Tewkesbury     On Severn Ham four Curlews present, at least three singing Sedge Warblers and a Jay carrying food apparently to a nest along the Swilgate. (Mike Smart).

Cotswold Water Park West     At Shorncote Reedbed birds included on Pit 85b nine Swallows, a Mistle Thrush, a male Blackcap, seven Cetti’s Warblers, eight Sedge Warblers, three Reed Warblers, 12+ Reed Buntings, a Kingfisher, two Lesser Whitethroats, two Bullfinches, seven Long-tailed Tits, a Grey Heron, a Little Egret, a Cormorant, two Common Terns, eight Tufted Ducks and a female Pochard. On Pit 85a two Egyptian Geese, a Little Egret, six Common Terns, two Shovelers, two Gadwalls, two Reed Warblers, three Reed Buntings and a Buzzard. Also Emperor Dragonfly and two Red Admiral butterflies. Thursday 1st June 2017

Cranham     The HOOPOE refound on Cranham Common at 5:40am at SO898129 and remained throughout the day until 8pm at least but could be very elusive at times. (Hugh Manistre). Also four Marsh Tits together near the entrance to the cricket pitch this morning. (MK).

Ashleworth Ham     The QUAIL calling again today from the centre of the reserve. (Mark Dowie/Ian Hull).

WWT Slimbridge    A Cuckoo heard on South Lake in the morning and a pair of CATTLE EGRETS with the longhorn cattle from the South Finger Walkway. Also a third calendar year Mediterranean Gull on the Rushy Pen at 1:30pm. Another Cuckoo heard on both safaris, also Grass Snakes and dragonflies including Hairy, Emperor, Four Spotted Chasers, Brown Hawkers and Black-tailed Skimmers. Bee Orchids can also be seen from the carpark, near the entrance. Cleeve Hill     From the Cleeve Hill Bill Smillie and Masts reserve a Cuckoo calling, Willow Warblers, Tree Pipits, Skylarks, Linnets, a male Yellowhammer, three Swifts and a Buzzard. Other sightings included Small Blue, Small Heath, Small Copper, Brown Argus, Brimstone, Common Blue, Speckled Wood and Dingy Skipper butterflies, moths included Forester, Burnet Companion, Silver-Y, Mother Shipton, Chimney Sweeper and many Five-Spot Burnet moths and many Garden Chafers. Cranham     A HOOPOE seen on top of Cranham Common this afternoon. (Athene Whitaker per Martin Whitaker).

Ashleworth Ham     This afternoon a QUAIL calling, two Cuckoos calling, a Red Kite over, five Willow Warblers, a Chiffchaff, a Whitethroat and four Lapwings. (Chris Moore).

Amberley     At Theescombe Lane a male Siskin and a juvenile on the garden feeder at 2pm, proving suspected nearby breeding. (Phil Williams).

Cotswold Water Park East     On Pit 126 two summer-plumaged Dunlins and a Little Ringed Plover on the sandbank and on Pit 127 Shelduck with at least three young. (John Durell).

Highnam Woods     1+ Nightingale singing early afternoon. (Tom Weston-McClung).

Tewkesbury     Four  Cuckoos between the Mythe water works and the Ham today. (Sarah Loaring).

Frampton     On Court Lake three adult Oystercatchers and a well-grown juvenile and a Cuckoo, and on the Sailing Lake three Common Terns early afternoon. (MK).

Tuesday 30th May 2017

Tewkesbury      A wholly unconfirmed report of a Night Heron photographed on the weir this morning. (per Steve Huggins).

Symonds Yat      From Yat Rock Viewpoint today the Peregrine pair and three young seen in the eyrie, a Red Kite, four Buzzards, a Sparrowhawk, four Ravens, a male Goosander, a Kingfisher, a Goldcrest, Song Thrushes, Blackcaps, Chiffchaffs, three Jays, Swallows, House Martins and Swifts. Other sightings included Hummingbird Hawkmoths, Painted Lady, Speckled Wood and Red Admiral butterflies. Hempsted     Two Cuckoos at Netheridge Farm this morning, also a Yellow Wagtail calling. (Mark Hobson).

WWT Slimbridge     A Little Ringed Plover on South Lake at 9:30am and another on the estuary seen from the safari at 3pm. Also the usual Kingfishers from the Kingfisher Hide and two CATTLE EGRETS in with the longhorn cattle best seen from the viewing platform next to the dragonfly pool, on the South Finger Walkway. Berkeley shore     At high tide a Cuckoo, 24 Shelducks, a pair of Mallards with four ducklings, two Canada Geese, three Oystercatchers and three Reed Warblers. (Tom Weston-McClung).

Ashleworth Ham     This afternoon birds included a Little Grebe, two Curlews, male and female Teal, three Shelducks, three Lapwings, two Cuckoos, four Blackcaps, two Swallows, three Chiffchaffs, two Nuthatches and two Treecreepers. (John Fletcher).

Frampton pools     A Little Ringed Plover by the Sailing Club again, six Common Terns, a Cuckoo, a Yellow Wagtail, five Whitethroats, 30 Lapwings, 15 Reed Warblers and ten Blackcaps today. (Nick Goatman).

Hardwicke     The unringed Ring-necked Parakeet of unknown origin still at the end of Darleydale Close this morning and visiting nearby garden feeders. (Julian Long).

Guscar Rocks     A Hobby and three Ringed Plovers today. (Lewis Thomson).

Berkeley     From Berkeley Castle a Red Kite flew N at 11:25am, two Grey Herons, four Mallards, a Raven family, two Sparrowhawks and a Little Egret. Also two Roe Deer. (Tom Weston-McClung).

Forest of Dean     In the Woorgreens area two Wood Warblers, a Firecrest and a Pied Flycatcher. Nearby two Redstarts at Speech House. (Mark Dowie).

Coombe Hill Meadows     A Grasshopper Warbler showing well today. (Les Waring).

Frampton pools     Two Mediterranean Gulls, six Common Terns, a Cuckoo, five Whitethroats, a Cetti’s Warbler and the Oystercatcher pairs chick growing well. (Nick Goatman).

Quedgeley     A Red Kite over at 12:30pm, then drifted E over Kingsway. (Mark Hobson).

Hempsted     A Red Kite over Netheridge Farm at 10:38am. (Mark Hobson).

Woodford     A Greenfinch on the garden feeders this afternoon, first sighting in the garden for c2 years. (Geoff Poulton).

Ashley     Nine Whitethroats, 11+ Swallows, 14+ Skylarks, a Kestrel, six Buzzards, 8+ House Martins, 15+ Swifts, 5+ Yellowhammers, four Stock Doves, a Willow Warbler, three Blackcaps, a Jay, a Green Woodpecker, two Yellow Wagtails, a Chiffchaff, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, two Bullfinches, 50+ Starlings including a good number of juveniles. Tewkesbury     Two Oystercatchers at the end of Lower Lode lane. At Tewkesbury ham weir four Cormorants catching Eels and Twaite Shad and a Kingfisher. (Keith Bannister).
