WWT Slimbridge      A CATTLE EGRET at South Finger, a Little Ringed Plover on South Lake, a Sanderling, 80+ Dunlins, 40+ Ringed Plovers, a Cuckoo, a juvenile LITTLE GULL on South Lake (same as Saul?), 99 Black-tailed Godwits and six Common Terns today. (Tom Weston-McClung/Slimbridge Sightings).

Stonehouse     Below St Cyr’s church a Hobby and a pair of Ravens over at 3:20pm. (Paul Sutton). A Hobby over the town this morning at 7:30am. (Jon Dexter).

Coombe Hill Meadows     A pair of Mute Swans with eight cygnets still, a male Shelduck, four Gadwalls, two Little Egrets, a Buzzard following a silage cutter, two Oystercatchers, three pairs of Lapwings with young (four, two and one chicks), three adult Redshanks with 2+chicks, c4 Curlews, a Little Ringed Plover, two Redstarts singing, a Grasshopper Warbler reeling strongly early on, at least four singing Reed Warblers and singing Sedge Warblers, Whitethroats, Willow Warblers and Reed Buntings. Symonds Yat     From Yat Rock viewpoint today the Peregrine pair and young, two Hobbies, a male Kestrel, five Buzzards, a male Sparrowhawk, Ravens, Swifts, House Martins and Swallows, a pair of Pied Wagtails, Mistle Thrushes with three fledged young, Stock Doves, a Chiffchaff, a Kingfisher, three Mandarins (2m, 1f), a Jay and a Green Woodpecker. Also a Bank Vole and two Fallow Deer. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Berkeley    A late Wheatear and a Red Kite at the shore this afternoon. (Paul Taylor). At Gloucestershire Science and Technology Park a Cuckoo calling at 5:18pm. (Stuart Evans).

Sharpness     At SARA this evening three Whimbrels and a Curlew flew S, a lost Shelduck duckling, nine Black-headed Gulls, two Mallards and a calling Tawny Owl. (Tom Weston-McClung).

Sapperton     A Green Woodpecker, two Swallows, three Nuthatches, 2 Coal Tit , 11 Blackcap, Mistle Thrush, six Chiffchaffs, two Stock Doves, five Marsh Tits, including er recently fledged birds, three Bullfinches, a Jay, four Swifts, a Muntjac and two Roe Deer. (Mark Grieve).

Hawling     In and around the pheasant pens, two Whitethroats, a pair of Yellowhammers, a Garden Warbler, two Meadow Pipits, three Red Kites, four Linnets, a Wren and late evening around 8:45pm, three Cuckoo’s flew S low overhead then 12 Canada Geese over Southdown Farm. (Rupert Dennis).

Stinchcombe     Two Red Kites seen just past junction 14 of M5 Northbound at 11am this morning in the Stinchcombe area. (Steve Curtis).

Forest of Dean     A Red Kite over St Briavels this afternoon. (Owen Follis). At Crabtree Hill 3+ Nightjars churring from 9:10pm and males and females in flight, a Woodcock flypast, two singing Tree Pipits, a distant Cuckoo heard and two Pipistrelles. Between here and the Woodland car park two Tawny Owls hooting and a juvenile heard begging and hissing. Earlier a Redstart singing near Kensley Lodge. (Steve Brown).

Ashleworth Ham      A female Kestrel, a male Sparrowhawk, a Buzzard, a Cuckoo, two pairs of Redstarts, a Grey Heron, Song Thrushes, Chiffchaffs, Willow Warblers, two Blackcaps, four Lapwings, a drake Shelduck, a pair of Teal, a pair of Pied Wagtails, a pair of Long-tailed Tits, Canada Geese, a Whitethroat and two male Blackcaps singing. Also Brimstone, Peacock, Red Admiral, Holly Blue and Green-veined White butterflies, a Weasel, a Four Spot Chaser, Azure Damselflies and a Large Red Damselfly. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Coombe Hill Meadows     This morning a Cuckoo, a Curlew, five Reed Buntings, a Sedge Warbler, two Reed Warblers, three Little Ringed Plovers, four Blackcas and a Skylark. (Frank Bryant).

Ashley     8+ Whitethroats, 10+ Yellowhammers, 8+ Skylarks, a Kestrel, three Mistle Thrushes, 12+ Swallows, nine Buzzards, ten House Martins, a Willow Warbler, two Ravens, two Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 9+ Blackcaps, a Corn Bunting, 10+ Chiffchaffs, a Stock Dove, a Green Woodpecker, a Nuthatch and 11 Swifts. Tresham     A Wheatear and a male Yellow Wagtail on the Monarchs Way today and a Spotted Flycatcher back on territory in the village. (Geoff Moyser).

Forest of Dean      Two Wood Warblers seen heard calling but not singing behind the Cannop Cycle Hire centre, four Tree Pipits in the clear fell at Yew Tree Brake, three Tree Pipits in the clear fell near Cannop ponds, a singing Firecrest near Speech House and three soaring Goshawks from Serridge Ridge. Highnam Woods     This evening at least six Nightingales singing, a pair of Spotted Flycatchers and six Sand Martins over. (Mark Hobson/Dave Owen).

Cam Green     A Hobby over late afternoon. (Neil Smart).

Cotswold Water Park West     Along the Thames path from Pit 57 downstream to the footbridge, singing birds included a Nightingale, five Garden Warblers, a Cettis Warbler and a Reed Bunting. Also eight Common Terns, a Buzzard, a Green Woodpecker, three Great Spotted Woodpeckers, a Treecreeper, a Goldcrest and a Stock Dove. (Steve Brown).

Driffield     A Red Kite over near the village. (Steve Brown).

Rendcomb     Two Grey Wagtails and a Green Woodpecker today. (Steve Brown).

Cheltenham     At Naunton Park, a pair of Long-tailed Tits carrying food to their nest site next door. (Steve Brown).

Aston Somerville     Belated news of a QUAIL heard briefly yesterday late morning in a rape field between Little Buckland and Aston Somerville at SP062374. (Tim Hutton).

Westonbirt Arboretum     11+ Blackcaps, four Swallows, two Pied Wagtails, five Nuthatches, 9+ Chiffchaffs, a Buzzard, three Bullfinches, two Spotted Flycatchers, a Coal Tit, a female Siskin on the feeders, three Great Spotted Woodpeckers, two Garden Warblers, three Mistle Thrushes, a Red Kite and a Kestrel. Tetbury     A Red Kite near Trouble House Inn today. (Mark Grieve).

May Hill     Two Mistle Thrushes, a Treecreeper, a female Redstart and a Pied Wagtail today. (Alan Hooper).

Cotswold Water Park West      Ten Hobbies over Pit 57 and four over Pits 42/44. (Jon Mercer).

Ashleworth Ham      A Grasshopper Warbler today. (Ian Hull).

Frampton     The Little Ringed Plover still by the Sailing Club today, around the pools a Hobby, six Common Terns, five Yellow Wagtails, a Cuckoo, two Shelducks and two Cetti’s Warblers.  (Nick Goatman).

Highnam Woods     Between 10am-1:30pm at least five Nightingales heard, two Marsh Tits and a Spotted Flycatcher. Also a Hornet and a Common Blue. (Steve Curtis).

Forest of Dean     At Crabtree Hill 2:15 to 5pm a Goshawk displaying, a Tree Pipit, a Cuckoo. Also a Small Heath, a Four-spotted Chaser and a Great crested Newt and Firecrest near to Speech House. (Steve Curtis).

The Camp     At Rough Banks Butterfly Reserve two Ravens, a singing Tree Pipit, two Long-tailed Tits, two Bullfinches, two Yellowhammers, three singing Song Thrushes, two Stock Doves and a Roebuck. (Steve Brown).

Daglingworth     A calling Cuckoo and a Hobby this morning. (Andrew Morrison).

Coombe Hill Meadows     This morning two Avocets, a Snipe, a Cuckoo, a Redshank, several Lapwings, one with four chicks, two Little Ringed Plovers, a Grey Heron, an Oystercatcher and many Sedge Warblers singing. (Adrienne Sanders).

Tresham     Near the Monarch’s Way two Wheatears (probably the same birds) and a Corn Bunting. Three Corn Buntings on the farm track going S from Tresham and another on the road to the A46. (Vic Polley).

Friday 19th May 2017

Forest of Dean     In the lower woods at Nagshead by the road two male Pied Flycatchers, two Spot Flycatchers, a female Redstart and a Garden Warbler. Also three Treecreepers and a pair of Grey Wagtails on the stream. (MK). At St Briavels on garden feeders still one male Siskin. (Bob Broughton).

Highnam Woods     Hawfinches feeding young, and at least nine singing Nightingales this morning. Highnam Woods car park will be open this weekend 10am-4pm. (RSPB Gloucestershire).

Coombe Hill Meadows     From the Grundon hide, birds included two Little Ringed Plovers, a Curlew, a Redshank, a Grey Heron and four Lapwings. Also three Cuckoos, four Treecreepers, a Kestrel, two Buzzards, several singing Sedge Warblers, Reed Warblers and Blackcaps, two Willow Warblers and a Whitethroat. Also seven Orange Tips, five Brimstones, two Green-veined Whites and at least ten Azure Damselflies. Frampton     A Little Ringed Plover still by the Sailing Lake early morning, also four Common Terns and two Cuckoos and a Yellow Wagtail at Splatt Bridge. (Gordon Hodgson).

Batsford Arboretum     Two Jays, a Nuthatch back and forth at a nest hole, a Coal Tit, three Blackcaps and several Chiffchaffs. (Andy & Sue Gibbons).

Ashley     A distant calling Cuckoo today. (Mark Grieve).

Hempsted     At Netheridge Farm this evening a Barn Owl with prey, two male Cuckoos singing, a Lesser Whitethroat and seven Swifts. (Mark Hobson).

Ashleworth Ham     This evening birds included a female Pintail, two Red-legged Partridges, two Lapwings, two Curlews, two Shelducks, male and female Teal, a Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming, a male Reed Bunting, two Nuthatches, two Buzzards,a male Blackcap and two Chiffchaffs. (John Fletcher).

Sherston (Wilts)     A BLACK KITE at 3pm drifting S between Sherston village and Westonbirt (Glos). (Rob Crofton per Steve Owen).

Frampton     A Little Ringed Plover by the Sailing Lake early morning, also a drake Pochard and four Common Terns. The pair of Oystercatchers have two chicks on the island on Court Lake. (Nick Goatman).

Saul Warth     An immature LITTLE GULL this morning. Also a Wheatear and a Whimbrel. (Roy Widgery).

Forest of Dean     At Crabtree Hill six Tree Pipits, a pair of Stonechats with three fresh juveniles and a pair of Lesser Redpolls, also a male Firecrest gathering green caterpillars near Speech House. (MK). A Wood Warbler and a Garden Warbler at Nagshead. (Les Ditchburn). At Wenchford Picnic Site two pairs of Grey Wagtails, a Dipper on the brook and a pair of Stock Doves below the feeders. (Bob Broughton). A Tree Pipit singing and displaying at Ruardean Hill SO641165 mid afternoon. Also Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Blackcap and Great Spotted Woodpecker. (Laurie Pierce).

Berkeley shore     A late Whinchat this afternoon. (Paul Taylor).

WWT Slimbridge     At least six Mediterranean Gulls on site today including five first-summers and an adult on the Rushy this morning. Also an immature LITTLE GULL there. (Slimbridge Sightings).

Twyning     Two Cuckoos flying around together today. (Sarah Loaring).

Symonds Yat     From the viewpoint today the Peregrine pair with young, a pair of Kestrels, a female Sparrowhawk, five Buzzards, Ravens, a pair of Pied Wagtails, a Kingfisher, a pair of Goosanders, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, a pair of Jays, House Martins, Sand Martins, Swallows and Swifts, a pair of Mistle Thrushes and Chiffchaffs. Other sightings included a Fallow Deer, a Bank Vole, a Rose Chafer, Green Longhorn moths, Holly Blue and Red Admiral butterflies. Gloucester     At Horsebere Brook Flood Storage Lake birds included a pair of Mute Swans nesting, 19 Mallards, four Little Egrets and two singing male Reed Buntings. (Gordon Avery).

Witcombe Reservoirs     A pair of Shelducks, rare here and a singing male Cetti’s Warbler. (Gordon Avery).

Tewkesbury     At Severn Ham three Curlews, a Grasshopper Warbler reeling, six Sedge Warblers, four male Reed Buntings and a Corn Bunting singing today. At Breakingstone Meadow three Sedge Warblers and two male Reed Buntings. At Shuthonger Common three Tufted Ducks on a farm pond, three Sedge Warblers and two male Reed Buntings. (Mike Smart).

Cleeve Hill     A Cuckoo and three Linnets today at the Bill Smyllie butterfly reserve. Butterflies included Brimstone, Small Copper, Small Heath, Small Blue, Common Blue, Brown Argus, Duke of Burgundy and a Dingy Skipper. Moths included Burnet Companion, Ruby Tiger, Common Heath, a Forester species (Cistus?), and several 5-Spot Burnets.
