Guscar Rocks/Aylburton Warth     This morning two juvenile Shelducks, a Little Egret, a Sparrowhawk, a Kestrel, five Oystercatchers, 70 Ringed Plovers, a Whimbrel, 600 Curlews, a Turnstone, a Sanderling, 72 Dunlins, four Common Sandpipers, two Greenshanks, a Kingfisher, three Whinchats, two Wheatears, five Yellow Wagtails and four Grey Wagtails. WWT Slimbridge   A GREAT WHITE EGRET landed in the Bottom New Piece early afternoon and nine CURLEW SANDPIPERS from Zeiss hide. (Jake King). Late report of an Osprey over the reserve today seen by a member of WWT staff, no further details. (Slimbridge Sightings).

Tresham to Boxwell     A Hobby and six Wheatears this morning from the Monarch’s Way. (Vic Polley).

Stonehouse     A Little Egret flew NW over SKF at Oldends Lane at 12:45pm, first site record in 42 years. (MK).

Hempsted     At Netheridge Farm a Hobby over at 2:25pm. (Mark Hobson).

Elmore     A juvenile Little Owl and another calling evening at Farley’s End SO772151. (Mark Hobson).

Tirley     A Tawny Owl calling at 5am.Later a Bullfinch, 14+ Swallows, 11+ House Martins, a Blackcap, four Chiffchaffs, three Stock Doves, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, eight Goldfinches and nine Linnets. (Mark Grieve).

Coombe Hill Meadows     A Wigeon, 25 Teal, 50 Mallards, 40 Lapwings, three Snipe, two Ruffs, at least seven Green Sandpipers, a Greenshank, a Little Owl calling from near the Snipe Pool at dusk, at least three Tawny Owls calling along the canal after dark. (Mike Smart).

Tuesday 30th August 2016

Minchinhampton Common     First thing this morning 2-3 Redstarts, a Wheatear, a Whitethroat and a Yellow Wagtail heard calling in the mist. (Terry Grant).

WWT Slimbridge     From Zeiss Hide/Top New Piece four juvenile CURLEW SANDPIPERS with seven juvenile Ruffs, two Avocet and a Garganey amongst 500 Teal. (Slimbridge Sightings). Also a Grasshopper Warbler in a private area. (Martin McGill).

Frampton pools     An adult Yellow-legged Gull, four Common Terns, a Yellow Wagtail, a Spotted Flycatcher, three Lesser Whitethroat, 34 Chiffchaffs, five Willow Warbler and 14 Reed Buntings today. (Nick Goatman).

Coombe Hill Meadows    From the Grundon hide a Hobby and two Whinchats.  Along the canal a shoal of c16 Roach and Migrant Hawker, Brown Hawker and Common Darter.  At the car park a party of Long-tailed Tits and a Raven over. (Steve Brown). Also today a pair of Mute Swans, 100 Greylags, 100 Canada Geese, two Barnacle Geese 35 Teal, 20 Mallards, a Wigeon heard calling through the mist, six Grey Herons, a Little Egrets, 60 Lapwings, at least ten Snipe, a Green Sandpiper, two juvenile Ruff, c40 Swallows SW, a Wheatear, two Whitethroats, at least ten Chiffchaffs and five Bullfinches. Cherington Lake    Two Grey Wagtails, six Coots, two Moorhens, five Mallards, a Green Woodpecker, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, six Long-tailed Tits, four Swallows, a Grey Heron and two Buzzards. Also five Red Admirals and Emperor dragonflies. (John Fletcher).

Sandhurst Hill     Three Wheatears this morning.  (Martin Greenish).

Forest of Dean     150+ House Martins over Crabtree Hill this morning, some of them perched in a Larch tree. (Frank Williams).

Frampton pools     Six Spotted Flycatchers, a Lesser Whitethroat, an adult Yellow-legged Gull, seven Common Terns, two Green Sandpipers, 25 Chiffchaffs and six fresh Willow Warblers feeding with two Reed Buntings down Green Lane S of Frampton Sailing Lake in broad bean crop as well as singing birds in Watery Lane and the Gravel Wash. Hempsted     At Netheridge Farm a Whinchat, eight Whitethroats, 16 Chiffchaffs, two Willow Warblers and Blackcaps. (Mark Hobson).

WWT Slimbridge     On South Lake a juvenile Spotted Redshank, 35 Redshanks, 154 Black-tailed Godwits, four Ruff, a Greenshank briefly and a Green Sandpiper. (Slimbridge Sightings).

Sharpness     Five Common Sandpipers, three Yellow Wagtails, three Ravens, two Lesser Whitethroats, six Whitethroats, a Dunlin, a Green Woodpecker and a Cetti’s Warbler. In the Sharpness area a Goshawk flew inland first thing, a Tree Pipit flew N, a Whinchat by Berkeley pill and four Ringed Plovers and five Wheatears. (Andy Jordan).

Cotswold Water Park West     At Shorncote this morning four Little Egrets, a Common Sandpiper, a Dunlin, 105 Lapwings, a female Sparrowhawk, 40 Linnets, 25 Goldfinches, a Green Woodpecker, a pair of Bullfinches, a Cetti’s Warbler, a Sedge Warbler, a Whitethroat, a Grey Wagtail and four Reed Buntings. Cotswold Water Park East     At Pit 132 at Kempsford a Greenshank, three Green Sandpipers, four Common Sandpipers and a juvenile Little Ringed Plover today.  (Jon Mercer).

Forest of Dean     At Crabtree Hill a Nightjar churring and flight calls heard from 8:50pm to 9:15pm after dark.  Also a few Wild Boars heard, two Pipistrelles and a larger bat species and a Common Toad.  Earlier at Woorgreens a Little Grebe and two Ravens at the car park. (Steve Brown).

Symonds Yat    The resident Peregrine pair with their juvenile male, a pair of Buzzards with a juvenile, a juvenile female Sparrowhawk, Ravens, Stock Doves, a Jay, five Goosanders, three Mandarins (2f, 1m), Swallows and House Martins. Also a Fallow Deer with a fawn, a Speckled Wood and a Painted Lady. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Berkeley shore     Four Greenshanks, a juvenile Black-tailed Godwit, eight Common Sandpipers, a Peregrine and a Wheatear today. (Paul Taylor). A Hobby flying through the allotments at Brookend, near Berkeley with Swallows in pursuit today. (Jeff Kirby).

Coombe Hill Meadows     Two Mute Swans, 14 Greylags, 30 Canada Geese, 33 Teal, 78 Mallards, a Shoveler, four Little Egrets, three Grey Herons, 2+ Buzzards, five Coots, 60 Lapwings, a juvenile Ruff, nine Snipe, four Green Sandpipers, a Kingfisher, 20 Swallows, three juvenile Pied Wagtails, a Whitethroat, at least one Willow Warbler, ten Chiffchaffs and five Bullfinches today. (Adrienne Sanders/Juliet Bailey/Les Brown/Mike Smart).

Nailsworth     1900+ Wood Pigeons flying N between 2:30-4:20 pm, a Hobby flying S and 45+ House Martins and 30+ Swallows. (Terry Grant).

Frampton     At Court lake mid afternoon six Goldcrests (5 juvs), four Common Terns, two Kingfishers, three Willow Warblers, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, four Great Crested Grebes, a Buzzard and three Cormorants. (John Fletcher).

Whitminster     Two Wheatears, a Whinchat and a Green Sandpiper along the canal today. (Richard Baatsen).

Cotswold Water Park East     This afternoon a Curlew in flight near Lechlade Gravel pit SP213006. (Mike Cook).

WWT Slimbridge     The juvenile BLACK TERN and the Spotted Redshank still on South Lake today. A Grasshopper Warbler from Stephen Kirk hide and a Garden Warbler at Holden Tower. (Slimbridge Sightings).

Saul Warth     19 Black-tailed Godwits and a Knot this morning. Also a Redstart at Saul Lodge pond. (Gordon Hodgson).

Frampton      At Court lake at dusk 14 Little Egrets, two Little Owls and three Tawny Owls calling. The Yellow-legged Gull still on the Sailing Lake this morning. (Nick Goatman).

WWT Slimbridge     The juvenile BLACK TERN still on South Lake today. Also two Ruff. From Zeiss hide the Spotted Redshank still and three Ruff. Two Green Sandpipers from Knott hide and a fresh Lesser Whitethroat. Two Green Sandpipers and a Kingfisher on the Rushy. (MK).

Cotswold Water Park East    At Whelford Pools on Pit 111 five Cormorants, four Great Crested Grebes and a Grasshopper Warbler heard reeling near the bench on the opposite side left corner to the hide. On Pit 111a 37 Tufted Ducks, two Egyptian Geese, 14 Red Crested Pochards, four Great Crested Grebes, two Little Grebes, 11 Cormorants, a Goldcrest and a Treecreeper. (John Fletcher).

Hempsted     A Swift this evening at Netheridge Farm and a Hobby over at lunchtime. (Mark Hobson).

Coombe Hill Meadows     A Cackling Goose (pic below) amongst the Canada Geese today. Also three Green Sandpipers and a Common Sandpiper at the Long Pools and a Whinchat. (Jo & Mike Cox). A Marsh Harrier showed well at 12:10pm when it flew from Willows just behind Grundon Hide and circled the reserve until lost to sight at the back of the reserve. Cotswold Water Park West  This afternoon an immature Whinchat at Shorncote in the first rough field beyond the road before you get to the reed beds. (Martine Fenn).

Hawling    At least three Spotted Flycatchers and a Yellow Wagtail between Hawling and Hawling Lodge this morning, on and around a fence. (Laurie Pierce).

Gloucester     Seven Spotted Flycatchers at Sandhurst this evening. (Martin Greenish). At Horsbere Brook Flood Storage lake today the adult Little Grebe still present but no sign of the juvenile also a minimum of four Sedge Warblers and three Grey Herons (1 ad, 2 juvs). (Gord & Margaret Avery).

Forest of Dean     A Wheatear and eight Pied Wagtails on Parkend cricket pitch. A flyover Crossbill and a Grey Wagtail at Drybrook Road Station. (Frank Williams).

Frampton pools     Eight Common Terns (6 juvs) on the Sailing Lake, an Arctic Tern on Court Lake and a Raven and a Willow Warbler this morning. (Nick Goatman).

Cud Hill     Four Great Black-backed Gulls flew up from Holcombe valley over Cud Hill Common in a NW direction. Also a pair of Siskins the Common. (Marie-Claire Chapman).

Witcombe Reservoirs     111 Canada Geese, 17 Greylags, six Great Crested Grebes (4 ads, 2 juvs), a Cormorant, a female Yellow Wagtail, a Common Sandpiper, 25 Tufted Ducks, c100 House Martins, and a blue phase Snow Goose. (Marie-Claire Chapman). Also eight Little Grebes, at least two pairs bred, and two Little Owls, one in the orchard and the other up near Great Witcombe in an Ash tree. (Gord & Margaret Avery).

WWT Slimbridge     A juvenile BLACK TERN still on South Lake today. Also a Whimbrel today. (Roberta Goodall).

Coombe Hill Meadows     Eight Mute Swans, 119 Greylags, 109 Canada Geese, two Barnacle Geese, c60 Mallards, seven Little Egrets, two Grey Herons and 47 Lapwings, a juvenile Little Ringed Plover, a Green Sandpiper, four Stock Doves, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, c50 Swallows SW, nine Long-tailed Tits, four Chiffchaffs, a female Whinchat and a female Wheatear today. (Les Brown).

Eastington/Whitminster     Along canal just before Eastington roundabout a Kingfisher and two adult Mute Swans with three young and a Grey Wagtail. In a field along the disused canal behind Fromebridge Mill two Curlews and a juvenile Bullfinch. (Marie-Claire Chapman).

Frampton     On Court Lake 4-5 Common Terns (earlier 12), c12 Mute Swans, a Common Sandpiper and a Cormorant. On river from Frampton shore 50+ Curlews, a hunting Kestrel and 20 Shelducks. (Marie-Claire Chapman). Also at the pools today an Arctic Tern still, eight Yellow Wagtails over, a Grey Wagtail, two Pochards, a Teal, two Willow Warblers, two Spotted Flycatchers and a Lesser Whitethroat. (Nick Goatman).

Withington    A Red Kite drifted quite low over the mill at 1pm today. (David Norman).

Berkeley shore     A Whinchat new in just S of the farm at Berkeley shore, also four Wheatears, eight Yellow Wagtails and a Common Sandpiper today. (Paul Taylor).

Selsley Common     A Wheatear at 4:20pm and two Ravens over. (Colin Greenfield).

Hawling     Ten Red Kites this afternoon. (Martin Greenish).

Cleeve Hill     Ten Wheatears, two Redstarts, three Stonechats and singing Willow Warblers at dawn. (Greg Mabbett). At 3pm five Wheatears in the field next to the pylons and four Stonechats in the Heather Enclosure. (Roy Shilham).

Lydney Docks area     5+ Common Sandpipers, up to four Wheatears and four Yellow Wagtails this morning. (Frank Williams).

Monday 22nd August 2016

Purton     23 SHAGS flew into Glos from the S early afternoon, lingered on the water for a while, before all flying off high N. Highest count for Glos and South Glos. Also a Hobby over late afternoon, a Ruff and a Reeve and two Ringed Plovers S past Tites Point. (Paul Taylor).

Berkeley shore     Eight Yellow Wagtails amongst cattle just S of Severn House Farm, also a Wheatear and c20 Sand Martins this evening. (Paul Taylor).

WWT Slimbridge     An adult GANNET in close to Mid Point at 10:40am and a STORM PETREL over on the Awre side of the river at 11:25am. (Geoff Moyser). Probably the same petrel seen at 10:35ff of Sharpness Coastguards. (Jake King). A juvenile BLACK TERN still on South Lake today. (Martin McGill).

Frampton pools      Two BLACK TERNS on the Sailing Lake, an Arctic Tern on Court Lake and 6+ Common Terns this morning. (Nick Goatman). Also two Crossbills over. (Gordon Hodgson).

Gloucester     A male Redstart in the garden in Hamer Street, Wotton at 6pm. (Julia Adamson).

Nailsworth     This afternoon 14+ Swifts, 580+ House Martins, a Sand Martin and 20+ Swallows flying S. (Terry Grant).

Awre    13 Canada Geese, 40 Shelducks, a Great Heron, two Little Egrets, a Mallard, 70 Curlews, three Common Sandpipers, a Skylark, three Yellow Wagtails, a Wheatear and a Willow Warbler giving a burst of song. (Mike Smart).
