Coombe Hill Meadows    Two Mute Swans with four cygnets, three Teal, four Little Egrets, four Grey Herons, a Kestrel, a Coot with four chicks, two Oystercatchers with two nearly full grown chicks, two female Lapwings with chicks (broods of two and four), and c5 non-breeders, a Redshank, a Redstart, a Cetti’s Warbler, a Reed Warbler, a Sedge Warbler, a Whitethroat and a Reed Bunting. (Les Brown/ Mike Smart).

Ashleworth Ham     A Grasshopper Warbler still singing on the reserve.  On the Hasfield side, two Curlews, and a baby Skylark in the long grass. (Mike Smart).

Up Hatherley     A Lesser Whitethroat singing opposite Morrison’s. (Steve Brown).

Monday 20th June 2016

Coombe Hill Meadows     From the Wainlode end this afternoon two Shelducks, seven Teal, a Curlew flew over and a Water Rail calling from the short pool. A pair of Mute Swans with two cygnets in the ditch about halfway along the canal, two Reed Warblers singing at the Long Pool and three Redstarts towards the W end of the canal and 20+ singing male Reed Buntings. Also a Roe Deer. (Andy Jayne).

Tirley     A male Yellow Wagtail today. (Mark Grieve).

Bisley     Five Yellowhammers, a Red Kite, six Skylarks, eight Swallows and five House Martins today. (John Fletcher).

Coates     Between Tarlton and Hailey wood near Coates at SO959010 a Hawfinch in flight, three Chiffchaffs, four Blackcaps, two Whitethroats, a male Sparrowhawk, a Yellowhammer, three Linnets, a female Bullfinch, three Pied Wagtails, a Tawny Owl asleep in an Ivy thicket, two Skylarks, a Meadow Pipit, a Wheatear and a Great Spotted Woodpecker. (Michael Cook).

Wortley     Two Spotted Flycatchers at Broad Bridge. (Vic Polley).

Tresham    Two Corn Buntings and two Yellow Wagtails near the barn between Tresham and the A46, three Corn Buntings along the farm lane going S from Tresham and two Red Kites circling further S near Midger Wood. (Vic Polley).

Tirley Sandpits     5+ Skylarks, five Swallows, 9+ Blackcaps, five Chiffchaffs, 8+ Whitethroats, a male Redstart, two Great Spotted Woodpeckers, nine Stock Doves, a male Yellow Wagtail, a Red-legged Partridge, four Greylags over, two Mistle Thrushes, five Swifts, four Yellowhammers, two Bullfinches, a Grey Heron and two Lesser Whitethroats.  (Mark Grieve).

Twyning     In the village area Swifts, Swallows, House Martins, a Stock Dove and two Buzzards. Also a Squash Bug, a Large Skipper, a Ringlet and a Marbled White butterfly. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Coombe Hill Meadows     Belated news of a WOOD SANDPIPER yesterday but no sign today. (Graham Smith per Mike Smart). Two Mute Swans a pair of Shelducks with at least five almost full-grown young, a pair of Wigeon, at least five Teal, 50 Mallards, three Tufted Ducks, two Little Egrets, three Grey Herons, the immature SPOONBILL still, a pair of Coot with four chicks, a Water Rail heard, two pairs of adult Oystercatchers, one of them with two chicks, two female Lapwings with broods (one of two chicks, one of at least three), plus at least eight others, a Curlew, two Redshanks, a Green Sandpiper, two Cuckoos, a Cetti’s Warbler, at least four Reed Warblers and two Yellowhammers. Cobney Meadows     A pair of Canada Geese with five young, a pair of Shelducks with c7 ducklings, two Little Egrets and two Green Sandpipers. (Mike Smart).

Windrush Airfield    A Little Owl, three Yellow Wagtails and six Corn Buntings on the NCOS walk this morning. (Andy Lewis).

Eastleach    On the Hatherop Estate north of Eastleach a Little Owl, a Little Egret, a Green Woodpecker, three Red Kites and a pair of Redstarts. Also a Fox chasing a Brown Hare. A Hobby seen S of Barnsley. (Chris Furley).

Tirley     A Little Egret flew over the cottage today, a garden tick. Also a Tawny Owl calling at 11pm. (Mark Grieve).

Ashleworth Ham     From the hide, a Hobby hunting dragonflies mid afternoon, briefly mobbed by a female Sparrowhawk, also two Blackcaps, a Redstart heard, 40+ Swifts, three Swallows, a Curlew and a Skylark heard, a drake Teal, a Sedge Warbler, a Grey Heron and a Whitethroat. (Mark Grieve).

Symonds Yat     From the viewpoint the Peregrine pair with their one juvenile, two Sparrowhawks, four Buzzards, Ravens, a Marsh Tit, a Pied Wagtail and a Green Woodpecker. Also a Red Admiral and a Speckled Wood, Hornets and a Fallow Deer doe suckling a newly born fawn. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

WWT Slimbridge     A WHITE STORK from Mid-Point from 10am until 11am at least, seen in close initially and was unringed. (Geoff Moyser).

Coombe Hill Meadows     The SPOONBILL still present today. Also a Cuckoo, two Willow Warblers singing, 5+ Chiffchaffs, three Blackcaps, 6+ Whitethroats, 6+ Sedge Warblers, four Reed Buntings, 20+ Lapwings, three Teal, a Wigeon, a Redshank, two Oystercatchers and a Cetti’s Warbler. Cirencester     At Oakley Wood a pair of Hawfinches attending a nest and possibly a different pair seen in flight about 1/2km away. Also a family party of at least five Marsh Tits, four Spotted Flycatchers and a Garden Warbler. (Andy Jayne).

Thursday 16th June 2016

WWT Slimbridge     A WHITE STORK circled over the Trust late afternoon before moving off N. (Baz Hughes). It was last seen over Frampton Sailing Lake but not relocated. (Gordon Hodgson). It was likely to have been the escaped bird seen in Herefordshire recently. Also two Green Sandpipers, 25 Avocets on South Lake and four chicks on the pool in-front of the Holden  Tower. (Derek Hale).

Frampton      From Splatt Bridge this morning a SPOONBILL flew
N, an unseasonal Short-eared Owl and a Green Sandpiper. (Gordon Kirk/Nigel Cramp).  A Red Kite over the Green at 8:30am today. (Gordon Hodgson).

Forest of Dean    Three Wood Warblers singing in woodland around the Great Haugh Brook NW of Brierley and a pair of Grey Wagtails feeding young. (Ivan Proctor).

WWT Slimbridge     A GREAT WHITE EGRET flew across fields by the approach road to WWT this morning, heading in the direction of the 100-Acre. (Terry Grant).

Coombe Hill Meadows     A first-year SPOONBILL still (pic by Derek), a Little Ringed Plover, a Redshank, two Oystercatchers with two juveniles and c20 Lapwings with five juveniles. Also a female Wigeon, a male Gadwall, four Little Egrets, c6 Skylarks, a Cetti’s Warbler heard, two Mute Swans with two cygnets, two male Cuckoos, two Sedge Warblers, a Reed Warbler, two Blackcaps, a Garden Warbler, a male Yellowhammer, two Stock Doves, two Buzzards, two Reed Buntings, three Whitethroats and seven Coots with four juveniles.(Derek Hale).Spoonbill 150616Hardwicke     On waste ground at Quadrant Way a Green Woodpecker feeding two juveniles when a juvenile Sparrowhawk made a failed attempt to take one. (Michael Cook).

Coombe Hill Meadows     This morning a first summer SPOONBILL from Grundon hide at 8am. Also a pair of Mute Swans with four cygnets, three Gadwalls, 40 Mallards, three Little Egrets, two Grey Herons, a pair of Oystercatchers with two chicks, two female Lapwings with four and two chicks respectively, and a small group of nine more, a Green Sandpiper, two Redshanks, three Curlews, a Cuckoo and a Cetti’s Warbler singing by boardwalk. WWT Slimbridge     Two drake GARGANEYS from Zeiss hide today and a Little Ringed Plover on South Lake.  (@slimbridge_wild).

Forest of Dean     At Crabtree Hill two male Cuckoos, seven Willow Warblers, a Garden Warbler, three Tree Pipits, two Linnets and a Whitethroat. From New Fancy Viewpoint a Crossbill over, two Tree Pipits, a female Bullfinch and two Swifts. (Derek Hale).

Cherington     At Cherington Lake today two Grey Wagtails, a female Kestrel, five Blackcaps, a Nuthatch, three Swallows and a Green Woodpecker. (John Fletcher).

Bussage     A pair of mating Small Red Damselflies on the new garden pond. (Michael Cook).

May Hill      A pair of LESSER SPOTTED WOODPECKERS tending young near May Hill today.  (Andy Jayne).

Charlton Kings      This morning a female LESSER SPOTTED WOODPECKER feeding a juvenile on a garden fence in a private garden. Also a Jay and a pair of Bullfinches. (Martin Clifford).
