May Hill/Newent Woods area     This morning a LESSER SPOTTED WOODPECKER, two Firecrests, seven Garden Warblers, a pair of Spotted Flycatchers, three Redstarts, eight Meadow Pipits, ten Siskins and at least three Crossbills. (Andy Jayne).

WWT Slimbridge      Two Little Ringed Plovers and a Mediterranean Gull on South Lake at 2:45pm. (Mark Hobson).

Cold Aston     Five singing Corn Buntings along the road from the village to the A436 and two Yellow Wagtails by the muck heap near Notgrove. (Steve Brown)..

Gloucester     At Over ponds SO818194 a Kingfisher, a male Cuckoo and a  Cetti’s Warbler singing. On Castlemeads marsh SO821185 a pair of Linnets, probably nesting. At Port Ham (near the Lock keepers Cottage) SO821184 a Cetti’s Warbler singing, a Reed Bunting singing, a male Great Spotted Woodpecker and a begging juvenile. At Sudmeadow SO819185 a male Cuckoo (Ian Elphick).

Coombe Hill Meadows     Two Mute Swans with four cygnets, a Greylag, a pair of Shelducks with six well grown young, 17 Mallards, a Teal, two Grey Herons, two Oystercatchers with two young and 25 Lapwings, a female with three small young, a female with two small young, three males and a flock of 13 adults and two flying juveniles, two female/immature Ruff, two Oystercatchers with two young, a Green Sandpiper, a Redshank, a Snipe, two Cuckoos, 11 Pied Wagtails, a male Yellowhammer and two Roe Deer grazing beside the north scrape. (Les Brown). Also three Chiffchaffs, two Blackcaps, 5+ Sedge Warblers, 5+ Whitethroats, a Cetti’s Warbler, two Cuckoos, two Reed Buntings and two Little Egrets. (Jonathan Angliss).

Ashleworth Ham     This morning two Mute Swans, three Canada Geese, 21 Mallards. a male Wigeon, two male Teal, three Coots, a Grey Heron, two Little Egrets and a Green Sandpiper. (Les Brown).

Symonds Yat    From the viewpoint today the Peregrine pair and just one juvenile showing at the nest site, a Sparrowhawk, a Red Kite, a Kingfisher, a Marsh Tit, a Pied Wagtail, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, two Jays, Song Thrushes, Buzzards, Stock Doves, Swifts and House Martins. Also 12 Fallow Deer, a Red-necked Footman moth, a Hornet, Painted Lady butterflies and a Lesser Stag Beetle. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Tirley Sandpits     Five Blackcaps, 12+ Skylarks, a Curlew over, 12+ Whitethroats, a Red-legged Partridge, six House Martins, eight Stock Doves, 14+ Swifts, five Ravens, a Mistle Thrush, four Chiffchaffs, two Great Spotted Woodpeckers, a Green Woodpecker  six Swallows and a male Yellow Wagtail. Norton     12+ House Martins and six Swallows today. (Mark Grieve).

Northleach/Barrington      A Red Kite over Northleach this afternoon and two more at Barrington bushes. (Ben Hilder).

Cleeve Hill    A Red Kite, two Buzzards, a pair of Mistle Thrushes, a Cuckoo calling, Blackcaps, Tree Pipits, Meadow Pipits and Skylarks. Also Large White, Common Blue, Small Blue, Brimstone, a Brown Argus and Small Heath butterflies. Moths included Five Spot Burnets, Burnet Companion, Chimney Sweeper moth and a Forester moth. Coombe Hill Meadows     Birds today included a pair of Mute Swans with four small cygnets, a pair of Shelducks with six  ducklings, 30 Mallards plus a female with six ducklings on the canal, three Little Egrets, five Grey Herons, a Buzzard, a pair of Coot on south scrape with four chicks, two pairs of Lapwings with two and four chicks and seven adults, a pair of Oystercatchers with two half grown young, a Curlew, a Redshank, two Cuckoos, a Cetti’s Warbler, two Reed Warblers, at least five Sedge Warblers and Whitethroats and at least ten Reed Buntings. Tirley Sandpits     Seven Blackcaps, a Bullfinch, 7+ Skylarks, 10+ Whitethroats, five Chiffchaffs, five Stock Doves, 7+ House Martins, a Curlew heard, two Green Woodpeckers, four Swallows, four Swifts, two Great Spotted Woodpeckers, a Mistle Thrush and a Red-legged Partridge. In Tirley a Tawny Owl calling at 9:50pm, also a Spotted Flycatcher on wires. (Mark Grieve).

Kingscote     A belated report of a possible male Golden Oriole at 7pm last night. (Adam Soble per Martyn Hayes).

Hasfield Ham     An OSPREY flew over in the direction of Tirley at 8:30am being mobbed by a Crow. (Martin Greenish).

Ashleworth Ham     A Grasshopper Warbler reeling again this morning. (Martin Greenish). Two Grasshopper Warblers reeling, heard left and right of the hide, but didn’t start until 9:45pm. Two Redstarts along Stank Lane. (Paul Taylor/MK).

Hawling/Guiting Power area     Two Kestrels, a Hobby, a Cuckoo, two Ravens, six Garden Warblers, four Spotted Flycatchers, five Redstarts, a Yellow Wagtail, five Tree Pipits, eight Corn Buntings and numerous Whitethroats and Yellowhammers. (Andy Jayne).

Forest of Dean      A Red Kite circling on the thermals over Berry Hill at 3:30pm. (Kevin Jones). A singing Wood Warbler on the approach from Kensley Lodge to Crabtree Hill and a colour ringed Tree Pipit. (Terry Grant).

Symonds Yat    From Yat Rock viewpoint today the Peregrine pair and young, also an intruding Peregrine, four Buzzards, Ravens, a Goldcrest, a pair of Mandarins, Stock Doves, Swifts, House Martins, Swallows and two Juvenile Grey Herons. Also 15 Fallow Deer, a female Club-tailed Dragonfly (pic by Phil), Speckled Wood and Painted Lady butterflies, Rose Chafers and a Rhinoceros Beetle. (Chris & Phil Andrews).Club-tailed Dragonfly 070616Ashleworth Ham    This morning a CES ringing session caught 37 birds, including  Treecreeper, Lesser Whitethroats (six caught, three juveniles and three adults, six Sedge Warblers, three Whitethroats, two adult Redstarts and an adult Kingfisher. On the reserve and nearby two Mute Swans, two Teal, a Wigeon, a Peregrine, five Lapwings, six Curlews, at least two Cuckoos, 3/4 Redstarts singing and two Grasshopper Warblers reeling (first here this year. Cambridge     A Dipper on the River Cam at 7am. (Ian Elphick).

Berkeley shore     A Common Sandpiper today. (Geoff Moyser).

Forest of Dean     Early morning at Russell’s Enclosure an immature Goshawk perched in clearfell and several Tree Pipits. (Ian Hayes).

Leighterton     A Red Kite over the telephone exchange next to the A46 at 2:30pm. (Paul Sutton).

Twyning     A Curlew flew over the garden and a Cuckoo calling until 10pm at least, both garden ticks. (Mike Jones).

Farmcote    At Farmcote Woods between dawn and 9am a Grasshopper Warbler at SP038290. In the afternoon a Wheatear off the Cotswold Way, four Yellowhammers (3m, 1f), four Linnets, two Corn Buntings, six Skylarks, two Yellow Wagtails, a Meadow Pipit and two Ravens flying NE. At 8:45pm a singing Nightingale in Lidcombe Wood. (Michael Cook).

Frampton pools      This evening a LESSER SPOTTED WOODPECKER, a Cuckoo, three Yellow Wagtails, four Common Terns, two Cetti’s Warblers and an Oystercatcher. (Nick Goatman).

WWT Slimbridge      A SPOONBILL and two GARGANEY from the Safari today. The SPOONBILL visible distantly from the Sloane Tower this afternoon with a scope. (Roberta Goodall).

Withington     Near Withington Woods a pair of Spotted Flycatchers nesting, a Sparrowhawk, two Yellow Wagtails and a roding Woodcock at 9:55pm. (Michael Cook).

Coombe Hill Meadows     Late morning two Greenshanks, a Black-tailed Godwit and an adult male summer-plumaged Ruff. (John & Kevin Widgery).

Alderley     Ten Mandarins (four male, four female and two juvs) on the lake in Ozleworth Bottom. (Vic Polley).

Cleeve Hill      Three Tree Pipits on Prestbury Hill Reserve this morning, also a flock of nine Mistle Thrushes, a distant Cuckoo and a Roe Deer. WWT Slimbridge     Three SPOONBILLS landed on South Lake at 9:20am and remained until 11 am when they flew off N. (James Lees).

Minsterworth     A SANDWICH TERN over the river N of the Severn Bore pub at 2:50pm. (Andy Jayne).

Forest of Dean     At Moseley Green, opposite the pub entrance two Redstarts singing, a Tree Pipit and two Ravens.  Two Pied Flycatchers in the Woorgreens car park, at Crabtree Hill from 9:30pm three churring Nightjars, several passes of Woodcocks and a Cuckoo heard.  Also near Eastbach five newly fledged Coal Tits huddling on the ground. Ashleworth Ham     This afternoon a Buzzard, a Cuckoo, five Lapwings and two tiny chicks, a pair of Shelducks and seven chicks, six Mallards, two Grey Herons, two Curlews, a Sparrowhawk, five Blackcaps, a Goldcrest, a Bullfinch and a Spotted Flycatcher.
