Cotswold Water Park West     A female RED-FOOTED FALCON again around the Pit 68/59/72 area (Wilts) was seen to enter Glos airspace a few times from late morning but wasn’t seen to land in Glos. Tirley Sandpits     A Hobby over at 8:21am, a Lesser Whitethroat, a Green Woodpecker, two Great Spotted Woodpecker, three Yellowhammers, four House Martins, a Raven, a Red-legged Partridge, 10+ Whitethroats, 13 Stock Doves, 6+ Skylarks, a Cuckoo, 13+ Swallows and 7+ Blackcaps. (Mark Grieve).

Nailsworth     A pair of Dippers with at least two fledged juveniles this morning by Egypt Mill. (Tony Richardson).

Frampton     Four Avocets feeding on the flashes N of Splatt Bridge this morning. (Paul Masters).

Cheltenham     A Kingfisher flew across B4634 Old Gloucester Road where it bisects the River Chelt just past Cheltenham Fencing today. (Pete Long).

Saturday 21st May 2016

WWT Slimbridge     12 Sanderlings, 56 Ringed Plovers, 79 Dunlins & 1 and a Curlew on the Dumbles high tide roost this morning. The GREAT WHITE EGRET still on site and probably best viewed from Splatt Bridge, Frampton looking S, views are fairly distant and best with a scope.(@slimbridge_wild).

Frampton     At the pools 250+ Swifts, 400+ mixed hirundines flock of House Martins and Swallows, six Common Terns, two Yellow Wagtails and a Lesser Whitethroat. (Nick Goatman).

Tirley Sandpits     Five Chiffchaffs, six Blackcaps, eight Skylarks, six Whitethroats, six House Martins, 30+ Swifts, nine Swallows, nine Stock Doves, a Great Spotted Woodpecker and a Green Woodpecker this morning. (Mark Grieve).

Coombe Hill Meadows     Birds today included a pair of Mute Swans, two pairs of Greylags and two goslings, a pair of Shelducks, a pair of Wigeon, three Gadwalls, a female Mallard with seven ducklings, a Little Egret, two Grey Herons, a Hobby, c 8 Lapwings, two Oystercatchers, two Whimbrels, a Curlew, a Black-tailed Godwit, a Cuckoo, a Cetti’s Warbler and  small numbers of singing Sedge Warbler, Whitethroat, Blackcap, Chiffchaff and Reed Bunting. Leigh Meadows     Two Little Egrets and two Redstarts singing. (Mike Smart).

Ashleworth Ham     Two Mute Swans, two Shelducks with a single remaining duckling, a male Wigeon, three male Teals, a pair of Gadwalls, two Lapwings and a Curlew. (Les Brown).

Friday 20th May 2016

Frampton     The GREAT WHITE EGRET showed four times in flight over 100 Acre and also on the ground between 9:45-10:05am from the towpath N of Splatt Bridge. Forest of Dean     A Firecrest with a Goldcrest in mixed woodland near the clear-felled area, opposite Yew Tree Brake Crematorium. Also a Spotted Flycatcher, Siskins, and two Tree Pipits. (Martin Wright/Tim Hutton).

Coombe Hill Meadows     From the Grundon Hide a Black-tailed Godwit, a Curlew, a Little Egret and a Red Kite over at 4pm. Along the canal birds included Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Whitethroat, Lesser Whitethroat, Sedge Warbler (pic by Paddy Doyle) and Reed Bunting. Also a Large Red Damselfly and a few Common Blue Damselflies; also several Orange Tips and a Brimstone. (Keith White). Also a Muntjac. At Pit 126 four Reed Buntings, seven Common Terns, six Great Crested Grebes, two Red Crested Pochards, six Sand Martins and a Tawny Owl calling at 1:30pm. At Pit 111a five Cormorants, two Red Crested Pochards, two Grey Herons and three Great Crested Grebes. (John Fletcher).

Ashleworth Ham    Chiffchaffs, Willow Warblers, Blackcaps, two Buzzards, a Curlew, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, a Swift, Skylarks and a Whitethroat. Also Brimstone, Small Tortoiseshell and Orange Tip butterflies, Scorpion Flies and Large Red Damselflies. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Thursday 19th May 2016

WWT Slimbridge     A GREAT WHITE EGRET around the reserve today but views always distant from the Sloane Tower or the seawall at Mid Point. (@slimbridge_wild). Seen again late evening from the towpath N of Splatt Bridge in flight over the 100-Acre at 8:52pm. (MK).

Framilode      The ICELAND GULL on view from Upper Framilode church at 6pm then flew onto fields at Rodley. (Andy Jayne).

Frampton     300+ Swifts with 100+ House Martins at the Sailing Lake tonight also a few Swallows and Sand Martins, four Common Terns and two Buzzards being mobbed by corvids. (Nick Goatman/Nat Wylde).

Newnham-on-Severn     At 8am a Red Kite over the A48 just the Chepstow side of Newnham. (Peter Boorman & Lynne Mayers).

Tewkesbury     At the Mythe N.R. a Cuckoo, Chiffchaffs, a Blackcap, two Buzzards, a Green Woodpecker, a pair of Long-tailed Tits, a pair of Bullfinches and a Sedge Warbler. Other sightings included two Hornets, Four-spotted Chasers, Common Blue, Azure and Blue-tailed Damselflies, Beautiful Demoiselle and a male Banded Demoiselle. Butterflies included Large White, Green-veined White, Orange Tip, Holly Blue, Small Tortoiseshells,  Peacock and Brimstone. (Phil & Chris Andrews).

Westbury-on-Severn     Three ARCTIC TERNS at Westbury Strand at high tide this morning. (John Phillips).

Elmore     A Nightingale at Lower Rea this evening and two Cuckoos calling. (Andy Chapman).

Guscar Rocks     Two Sanderlings, 44 Ringed Plovers, 36 Dunlins & and 16 Curlews this evening. (Lewis Thomson).

Damery     Along the Little Avon this afternoon three Grey Wagtails, two Ravens, a Blackcap, two Kingfishers, two Dippers, a Grey Heron and a Song Thrush. (David Poulton).

A MARSH HARRIER over the 100 Acre briefly, viewed from the Robbie Garnett Hide at 1:30pm. (Martin Greenish). WWT Slimbridge     The GLOSSY IBIS flew S over the Rushy at 4:20pm. This morning the summer-plumaged CURLEW SANDPIPER and four Dunlins and a male Ruff with a white ruff and a Greenshank on the Top New Piece. (@slimbridge_wild).

Highnam Woods     A Nightingale still today. (Warren Gill).

Symonds Yat    From Yat Rock viewpoint today the resident Peregrines, a Red Kite, Ravens. Buzzards, ten Siskins, a Kingfisher, House Martins, Swallows and Swifts, a Reed Bunting, a Goldcrest, a Great Spotted Woodpecker and a Marsh Tit. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Coombe Hill Meadows    Birds today included two Ringed Plovers which left early, a Dunlin, a Black-tailed Godwit,  four Shelducks, two Gadwalls, a Little Egret, five Grey Herons, c8 Lapwings, two Oystercatchers, two Curlews, two Redshanks, two Redstarts, a Cetti’s Warbler, a Reed Warbler, five Sedge Warblers, four Whitethroats and three Reed Buntings. Forest of Dean     At Nagshead this morning five Pied Flycatchers, four Spot Flycatchers, a Wood Warbler, a Tree Pipit, a Firecrest and a sleeping Nightjar. (Andrew Mason). Also a Treecreeper, a Green Woodpecker, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, a Jay and a pair of Grey Wagtails, three Redstarts heard singing from the Lower hide. In the area within the Mallard’s Pike running trail a Cuckoo, a Wood Warbler, two Tree Pipits and several Siskins. (Steve Brown). Also at Nagshead a Hawfinch, a Raven, two Treecreepers and a Kingfisher. (John Fletcher).

Ashleworth Ham    Three Little Egrets, three Lapwings, 8+ Blackcaps, four Redstarts, two Great Spotted Woodpeckers, six Chiffchaffs, 12+ Sedge Warblers, a Curlew,  two Cuckoos, three Bullfinches, a drake Wigeon, a pair of Shelducks with three ducklings, 15+ Whitethroats, a drake Teal , 8+ Willow Warblers, three Red-legged Partridges, 10+ Skylarks, four Stock Doves, 5+ Reed Buntings, 21+ House Martins, an Oystercatcher, a Lesser Whitethroat, two Swallows, a Grey Heron, a Raven and a Nuthatch. Coombe Hill Meadows     From the wharf to the Grundon hide five Chiffchaffs, five Swallows,  a Sparrowhawk, seven Blackcaps, three Whitethroats, 6+ Sedge Warblers, two Curlews, a Cetti’s Warbler, a Reed Warbler, two Reed Buntings, a Yellowhammer, two Bullfinches, six Lapwings, a Redshank, five Grey Herons, seven adult Shelduck and six ducklings, six Little Egrets, a Black Tailed Godwit, a Cuckoo, five House Martins and two Swift. (Mark Grieve).

Cotswolds     Along the Windrush Way E of Lower Harford a Red Kite, two Buzzards, a Raven, a Little Owl, three singing Redstarts and a female, and a Goldcrest.  Also a Tree Pipit at Notgrove Long Barrow. (Steve Brown).

Twyning    From the garden today two Buzzards, a Cuckoo, a Swallow, two Swifts, a Sparrowhawk and a Kestrel. Also a Holly Blue and two Small White butterflies. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Wainlode     A Sand Martin with Swallows over the Red Lion Inn today. (Mark Grieve).

Cotswold Water Park West     17+ Hobbies feeding over Pits 57/42 early afternoon, 20 counted at midday. (Jon Mercer/Russ Peacey). At Shorncote three Common Terns in the evening, also Muntjac and Roe Deer. (MK).

Longlevens    An ARCTIC TERN flew over fairly low N, calling at 11:30am this morning. A garden tick. (Andy Jayne).

Sharpness     This morning an adult LITTLE GULL and an ARCTIC TERN flew N, also a Yellow Wagtail and a Lesser Redpoll over and two Whimbrels by the picnic site. (Andy Jordan).

Berkeley shore     Four Knot, a Sanderling, two Whimbrels, 98 Dunlins and 65 Ringed Plovers this morning. (Paul Taylor).

Symonds Yat    From the viewpoint today the Peregrine pair seen taking food into the eyrie to feed newly hatched young. Also an intruding Peregrine, a female Sparrowhawk, a Goshawk, a Kingfisher, eight Buzzards, a Tawny Owl calling, a Goldcrest, four Stock Doves, a pair of Marsh Tits. Swifts, House Martins and Swallows. Also eight Fallow Deer, an Orange Tip and a Painted Lady butterfly. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Tirley/Tirley Sandpits     Five Blackcaps, 9+ Chiffchaffs, a Spotted Flycatcher, a Goldcrest, 10 +Whitethroats, eight Swallows, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, a Green Woodpecker, 8+ Skylarks, a Red-legged Partridge, two Lesser Whitethroats, 10+ Stock Doves, a Raven, two Swifts N and a Cuckoo calling. (Mark Grieve).

Coombe Hill Meadows     Two Mute Swans, a pair of Greylags with two small goslings, two Canada Geese, a pair of Shelducks with six small ducklings and another six Shelducks, a Teal, a Gadwall, a Little Egret, two Grey Herons, a Sparrowhawk, ten Coots, two Oystercatchers, c10 Lapwings, two Curlews, at least four Redshanks, two Greenshanks, 25 Black-headed Gulls, a Cuckoo, ten Swifts, a Cetti’s Warbler, three Sedge Warblers, five Whitethroats, two Lesser Whitethroats and five Reed Buntings. Ashleworth Ham     A pair of Shelducks with eight small ducklings today. (Les Brown).

Edge     At Edge Common (SO849092) this afternoon birds included Blackcap, Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler. Butterflies included 4/5 Duke of Burgundy’s, four Green Hairstreaks, Small Heath, Dingy Skippers, Orange Tip and Large White. Also Beautiful Yellow Underwing and Latticed Heath moths, a Bee-fly sp. and Red-and-black Froghopper. (Keith White).
