Coombe Hill Meadows     Birds today included a GREAT WHITE EGRET, two Little Egrets, a Curlew, a Grey Heron, a Sedge Warbler, a Lapwing, an Avocet and a Cormorant. Frampton     On the flashes N of Splatt Bridge this morning the Ross’s Goose flew to the pools, four Little Egrets, a Sparrowhawk, three Avocets (2 adults, one of which was colour-ringed, and a chick), a Lapwing, an adult summer MEDITERRANEAN GULL, a Cuckoo in the 100- Acre, a Kingfisher, two Great Spotted Woodpeckers, a Sedge Warbler, two Reed Warblers and two Whitethroats. (Martin Wightman). On Court Lake today the Ross’s Goose again with 95 Barnacle Geese, two Hobbies, two Jays and a Red Kite through at 10:45am. Around the pools two Oystercatchers, a Yellow Wagtail, five Cetti’s Warblers, two Sedge Warblers, three Whitethroat, a Lesser Whitethroat and four Chiffchaffs. Also four Scarce Chasers, 6+ Black-tailed Skimmers, a Four-spotted Chaser, 3+ Emperors, two Common Darters and countless Damselflies, mainly Common Blue and a Red-eyed Damselfly. Coombe Hill Meadows     Late evening three Mute Swans, three adult Canada Geese with six goslings, 20 Mallards including a female with seven ducklings, nine Grey Herons, three Little Egrets, two Cormorants over, a pair of Coots by the Wharf with four chicks, two Oystercatchers, two adult Lapwings and a full grown juvenile, nine Curlews came in to roost after 9pm (including the ringed Blue Red Red from the estuary in 2010, and AJ ringed at Hasfield Ham earlier this year), the QUAIL still singing from fields along the canal, a Cuckoo, a female Yellow Wagtail, a Sedge Warbler and a Reed Bunting. Guscar Rocks/Aylburton Warth    40 Canada Geese, 22 Shelducks, a Grey Heron, two Oystercatchers, eight Lapwings including a juvenile, 31 Curlews (including two colour-ringed birds from 2013, one that had nested but failed nearby in Herefordshire, one that breeds in Fennoscandia; and two of the head-started birds from Slimbridge in 2019; therefore failed breeders already returning, at least four Redshanks, a Yellow Wagtail, three singing Meadow Pipits, two singing Reed Warblers and several singing Reed Buntings. At New Fancy View a Siskin, a Garden Warbler, two Chiffchaffs, a Swift and two Willow Warblers. By the Rising Sun Inn a Willow Warbler, a Siskin, two Swallows nesting at the Inn and feeding young, a pair of Mandarins and a Blackcap. Gloucester     This morning on Alney Island around Port Ham pond two Cuckoos, a male calling and a rufous female seen flying into the reedbed. Around the Island two Lesser Whitethroats singing, two Sedge Warblers singing from the Hawthorn scrub near Telford’s Bridge and a Reed Bunting singing from Port Ham pond. Also a couple of Whitethroats about.
