WWT Slimbridge     The LITTLE BUSTARD remains in the long grass on the Dumbles today, but is elusive and difficult to see at times. Patience and a scope are recommended. Also a Peregrine and 15+ Avocets. (Martin McGill). Also at the Dumbles today a Hobby over, a Great White Egret distantly to the south and two Little Egrets.  A Scarlet Tiger moth was in front of the South Lake hide. (Andy & Sue Gibbons).

This evening special escorted access to the Little Bustard for 6pm, 7pm and 8pm meeting in the car park. Free to WWT members and £10 cash for non members. Escorted return walks at 6:45pm, 7:45pm and 9pm. 

Leighterton     This evening four, possibly five QUAIL calling along Monarch’s Way, three in one Barley field, and one probably two calling in the other adjoining Barley field. An estimated 6-7 pairs of Corn Buntings in the area, at least two pairs carrying food. (Terry Grant).

Amberley     At Theescombe Lane a Ring necked Parakeet flew N in the valley at 5pm. Also a Painted Lady in the lane. (Phil Williams).

Halmore    This morning a Cuckoo heard between Halmore and Purton. (Chris Newton).

Cheltenham    Two Red Kites circling together over Rowanfield 9:30am. (Howard Taylor).

Forest of Dean     A Red Kite flew over Mitcheldean at 9:55am. (Chris Keeling). A Painted Lady at Whitecroft today. (Bernie Dumbleton).

Tewkesbury     A Cormorant over Severn Ham, four Curlews, two Cuckoos, still several Skylarks singing and at least three Reed Buntings singing. Just one Peregrine chick on the tray on the Abbey tower, looking nearly ready to fly (the Tewkesbury Abbey Peregrine blog confirms that one of the chicks succumbed last Friday). (Mike Smart).

Coombe Hill Meadows     This evening 15 Mute Swans,a pair of Canada Geese with five goslings, two Wigeon, two female Mallards, one with six ducklings and the other with seven, five Gadwalls, five Tufted Ducks, an immature Little Grebe and another whinnying, two Lapwings, four Oystercatchers, the two chicks fledged and now flying, seven Curlews came in to roost and a Cuckoo singing. Stow-on-the-Wold     A Firecrest heard and briefly seen calling from a large yew tree in the grounds of Stow Lodge, as viewed from St Edwards Churchyard today at 2pm. (Sean Minns).

Leighterton     Two QUAIL calling, three Corn Buntings, three Yellowhammers and a Roe Deer along Monarch’s Way from the cemetery this afternoon. (Shane Long). A QUAIL calling and a Corn Bunting singing at 9:22pm at ST82529050 just S of the village along the road going towards Knockdown and another Quail singing at 9:28pm further along that road at ST82609022. Also a Little Owl at Ashtree Farm, ST822906, on a telegraph post just S of the village on another road going S towards Didmarton. (Vic Polley).

Coombe Hill Meadows     Ten Mute Swans, a pair of Canada Geese with five goslings, a pair of Wigeon, at least 15 Gadwalls plus a female with nine ducklings (2nd site record), a male Shoveler, three Little Grebes, three Grey Herons, a pair of Coots with five chicks and another pair nesting, eight Lapwings, two Oystercatchers with at least one chick, Redshanks heard, a Cuckoo, several Reed Warblers and the odd Sedge Warbler, Whitethroat, Blackcap, Chiffchaff and Reed Bunting. Bisley     This evening 500+ Jackdaws, 100+ Carrion Crows, five Swifts, four Swallows, three House Martins, two Pied Wagtails and a Skylark. (John Fletcher).

Forest of Dean     At Cinderford Linear Park a male Blackcap, a Green Woodpecker, a Jay, a Chiffchaff and a Willow Warbler. Other sightings included Wood White, Peacock, Small Heath, Meadow Brown, Red Admiral, Small Skipper, Large Skipper, Small White, Common Blue and Grizzled Skipper butterflies, a male Broad-Bodied Dragonfly, Emperor Dragonflies mating, Large Red, Azure and Blue-tailed Damselflies and a Common Lizard. Symonds Yat      At Yat Rock viewpoint the resident Peregrine pair plus another Peregrine on Great Doward Hill, a Hobby, Buzzards, Ravens, Stock Doves, a Chiffchaff, a female Mandarin, a Spotted Flycatcher, House Martins, Sand Martins, Swifts and Swallows. Other sightings included a Rose Chafer, Hummingbird Hawkmoths, two Fallow Deer, Painted Lady and Speckled Wood butterflies. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Leighterton     Five QUAIL calling along the Monarch’s Way from the cemetery, three by the stone stile and two more c50 metres nearer the metal gate, all in the field opposite Bennett’s Farm. (Barry Englefield).

Tresham area     A QUAIL calling late evening from the footpath that goes through the fields back to the A46, E of the village, around ST 80514 91345. (Paul Rich).

Coaley Peak     A Spotted Flycatcher this afternoon at the NT reserve, in woodland just south of the small quarry at SO794008. (Vic Polley).

Frampton pools     The first Common Tern chick on the tern raft on the Sailing Lake tonight and seven adult birds, also a Cuckoo, 18 Swifts and a Great White Egret on Court Lake. (Nick Goatman).

Symonds Yat     In the Yat Rock area today the resident Peregrine pair and another Peregrine on Great Doward Hill, a Red Kite, a male Sparrowhawk, Buzzards, Ravens, House Martins and Sand Martins, Swallows and Swifts, a Song Thrush, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, a Green Woodpecker, a Chiffchaff, Stock Doves and a pair of Kingfishers. Other sightings included five Fallow Deer including a doe with a newly born fawn, Painted Lady and Red Admiral butterflies, Bank Voles, a Field Mouse, two Hornets, and Hummingbird Hawkmoths. The Leigh     A pair of Yellow Wagtails and a Redstart today. (Mike Smart).

Forest of Dean     A Red Kite flew over Longhope village at 4:50pm. (Angela Carswell). Early afternoon at least 15 Long-tailed Tits worked through the garden and feeders at Forge Hill, Lydbrook. (Chris Sullivan).

Cheltenham    A noisy Peregrine flew over the Honeybourne line and on to Christ Church and circled the tower. (Howard Taylor).

Edge     At Rudge Hill NNR mid afternoon six Tree Pipits, a Green Woodpecker, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, three Willow Warblers, five Linnets and a Chiffchaff heard. (John Fletcher).

Leighterton     A QUAIL calling in the second barley field on the right along the Monarch’s Way from the cemetery opposite Bennett’s Farm at 9:13pm. A second QUAIL calling from the first barley field on the right at 9:35pm and then again several times from 9:52pm. Both birds calling quietly and distant from the footpath. Also 4+ Corn Buntings. Tresham area     A QUAIL calling late evening. Also Corn Buntings and a Yellow Wagtail. (Paul Rich).

Ashleworth Ham     This evening two Canada Geese, a male and a female Wigeon, a singing Cuckoo, a Sedge Warbler, a Willow Warbler and a Reed Bunting. (Mike Smart).

Nailsworth area     12 singing male Yellowhammers in the area. Also a Red Kite and a Kestrel over Tiltup’s End and a Whitethroat family here. A Dipper on the stream below Ruskin Mill and two Grey Wagtails on Ruskin millponds. (Jake King).

Forest of Dean    At Flaxley/Hope Woods this afternoon three Hawfinches including a juvenile, a singing male Firecrest, a Wood Warbler, three Garden Warblers, five Spotted Flycatchers and three Crossbills. (Andy Jayne).

Ashleworth Ham     A ringing session this morning caught 90 birds the highlights being five Redstarts (1 ad, 4 juvs), seven Sedge Warblers, 13 Blackcaps, nine Whitethroats, four Lesser Whitethroats, four Willow Warblers, eight Chiffchaffs and a juvenile Reed Bunting. Still song from a Cuckoo, a Reed Warbler, a few Sedge Warblers, a Lesser Whitethroat, Willow Warbler and several singing Reed Buntings. Cirencester     At Sisters Wood two families of Whitethroats being fed by adults, a Wren family with four juveniles being fed, at least two Blackcap families, two Chiffchaffs and a Goldcrest heard. (Chris Snook). Pic by Chris.

WWT Slimbridge     The SPOONBILL still from Zeiss hide today. Also around the grounds 64 Avocets, 3+ Green Sandpipers, two Bar-tailed Godwits, a Ringed Plover and three Little Ringed Plovers. (Slimbridge Sightings).

Maisemore     From Church Road near and around the pool and to the weir on the Severn this afternoon two released Wood Ducks, a male Red Crested Pochard of unknown origin, 11 Mallards including seven large ducklings, seven Moorhens (4ads, 3 chicks), a Grey Heron, a Kingfisher, four Great Spotted Woodpeckers, five Song Thrushes, six Blackcaps, five Chiffchaffs, four Goldfinches, five Linnets, a Sparrowhawk and a Buzzard. Hucclecote    At 2pm today along Churchdown Lane a Hobby above the tree line for a few seconds then veered off towards the hill. (Ken Hurcombe).

Frampton     At Splatt Bridge at 10am a Tawny Owl carrying a male Blackbird in its talons from the canal hedge into Nebrow Wood. Also two Cuckoos, one calling regularly for at least 20 minutes and flying from the 100-Acre to Nebrow Hill Wood and also towards the reedbed at Splatt Bridge. Barnsley SSSI     Three Redstarts (2m), three Willow Warblers, a Blackcap, three Green Woodpeckers, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, Yellowhammers, a Corn Buntings, two Red Kites, two Buzzards, Swifts, House Martins, Swallows and a Jay. (Richard Williams).

Cirencester     A Green Woodpecker by Riverside Walk today. (Felicity Cobb).

Coombe Hill Meadows     This morning a Green Sandpiper, a pair of Oystercatchers with two chicks, a flock of 15 Lapwings, a female Lapwing still sitting, one with two full grown-chicks, another with four nearly half-grown chicks, a pair of adult Redshanks with three fledged juveniles, a male Curlew, 16 Mute Swans, a pair of Canada Geese with five goslings, two pairs of Shelducks, a pair of Gadwalls, a male Shoveler, a pair of Tufted Ducks, the Coot nest has hatched six chicks, a Cuckoo and a Reed Warbler.
