Coombe Hill Meadows     A Barn Owl (patch tick) and a Little Owl this evening. (Ian Hull).

Haw Bridge     Along the Severn above Haw Bridge four Oystercatchers, a Little Owl calling and 75 Rooks and 20 Jackdaws on a newly cut hayfield. (Mike Smart).

Leighterton    From the Leighterton to Knockdown Road a QUAIL heard at ST828897 at 8:30pm and a Little Owl heard in hedge nearby. (Vic Polley).

Tewkesbury     Seven Red Kites following a grass cutter at Walton Cardiff this morning. (Ian Hull).

Frampton pools     This morning a Common Sandpiper, seven Common Terns and six young, three Kingfishers, two Little Egrets, a Goldcrest feeding young and two juvenile Green Woodpeckers. (Nick Goatman).

Haresfield     At 1:30pm a Red Kite flew low across Haresfield Lane at SO831109. (Ian Elphick).

Tuffley     At 4:50pm a Red Kite soaring high over Tuffley at SO827151, mobbed by two gulls, then drifted E across Robinswood Hill/Sneedhams Green area. (Ian Elphick).

Berkeley     Eight Buzzards following the mower in fields just off Mill Lane today. (Andrew Jones).

Charlton Kings Common     On the escarpment this morning a Marsh tit, a Raven, a Tree Pipit singing, several Yellowhammers, two Skylarks and a hunting Kestrel. Also numerous Marbled White butterflies. (Chris Furley).

Longlevens     15 Swifts over today. (Elly Rickelton).

Halmore     A Little Owl on a post in the lane at dusk, a Song Thrush singing and a female Blackcap feeding a fledgling (6th). High numbers of newly-fledged Great Tits, Blue Tits, Goldfinches and Robins in the garden and at least two young Great Spotted Woodpeckers visiting peanuts. A young Green Woodpecker on the 4th. Cherington     Around the lake this evening birds included a Kingfisher, five Swallows, three House Martins, two Willow Warblers, three Grey Wagtails including a juvenile, a Marsh Tit, seven Long-tailed Tits, two Coal Tits, a Jay, two Buzzards, a Mistle Thrush and four Coots. (John Fletcher).

Tuesday 4th July 2017

Tewkesbury     At Mitton (SO896338) the last field in Gloucestershire, with flashes of open water 39 Mallards, with at least four broods of ducklings, ten adult Lapwings guarding two broods of young, one with two full grown birds able to fly, the other with one half grown chick, an adult WOOD SANDPIPER, five Sand Martins, ten House Martins and a Raven over. At Severn Ham three Cormorants and an Oystercatcher over, 5+ Skylarks, a Sedge Warbler still singing and at least five Reed Buntings. (Juliet Bailey/Mike Smart).

Forest of Dean     At least four Nightjars (3m) at Crabtree Hill tonight but not before 10pm. Also a male Stonechat and a Tawny Owl flew across the road at Horse Lawn. (MK/Norman Mansell). At Nagshead a male Redstart, a Grey Wagtail, a female Blackcap. Also a Silver-washed Fritillary, a Comma, Ringlet and Meadow Brown butterflies. (Chris & Phil Andrews). At Mallards Pike and Staple Edge Wood this evening an adult Goshawk, a singing male Firecrest, a Spotted Flycatcher, three Tree Pipits, 30 Siskins and at least five Crossbills including two juveniles. Symonds Yat     From Yat Rock viewpoint the Peregrines and three juveniles, two Buzzards, a Sparrowhawk, Chiffchaffs, a pair of Stock Doves, Swifts, Swallows and House Martins. Also Hummingbird Hawkmoths, Red Admiral, Silver-washed Fritillaries, Holly Blue, Ringlet and Meadow Brown butterflies and four Fallow Deer. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Coombe Hill Meadows     At 2pm 11 Little Egrets together, four Skylarks, 20 Lapwings, four Greylags, a Whitethroat, a Reed Warbler, a Grey Heron and a Little Ringed Plover. (Alan McIlquham).

Hempsted     Two Green Sandpipers, a Barn Owl and Whitethroats, Sedge and Reed Warblers in song at Netheridge Farm this morning. (Mark Hobson).

Amberley     At Theescombe Lane at 4pm a juvenile Red Kite circling the field opposite for 35 minutes before heading away N. (Phil Williams).

Stroud     At least 16 Swifts at SO842049 nesting in the chimney of Fromehall Mill, Lodgemoor Lane, also a Grass Snake on the mill pond at 6:50pm. (Duerden Cormack).

Coombe Hill Meadows     This evening a Barn Owl hunting over the Short Pool at 7:30pm. Still two adult Oystercatchers with at least one full grown chick, two or three adult Lapwings with families of three and one full grown chicks, an adult Redshank with four chicks, almost full grown, a Curlew roosting, a Little Ringed Plover, four Little Egrets, five Grey Herons, and a Mallard with four ducklings. Cotswold Water Park West     At Shorncote 10:30am-4pm at Pit 85a birds included seven Pied Wagtails, four Linnets, nine Reed Buntings. two Cetti’s Warbler calling, eight Sedge Warblers, a Green Woodpecker, six Swallows and two Common Terns. On Pit 85b eight Common Terns including a juvenile, two Kingfishers, two Mute Swans with five cygnets, five Swifts, five Cormorants, two Yellow Wagtails, two Sedge Warblers and two Grey Wagtails. Coombe Hill Meadows     A Mute swan pair with eight cygnets, six Little Egrets, three Grey Herons, two Common Sandpipers, two Little Ringed Plovers, six Redshanks, two Oystercatchers, two Curlews, 30+ Lapwings, two Great Spotted Woodpeckers, a Cuckoo, three Skylarks, 12 Goldfinches, two Bullfinches, seven Greenfinches, a Grasshopper Warbler close to the hide, five Whitethroats, a Lesser Whitethroat, three male Blackcaps, five Sedge Warblers, four Reed Warblers, four Willow Warblers, eight Long-tailed Tits, two Stock Doves and eight Reed Buntings. Forest of Dean     At Nagshead from Lower Hide a Kingfisher, a Redstart, three Grey Wagtails (1f, 2 juvs), a Great Spotted Woodpecker, a Goshawk calling repeatedly and two Stock Doves. A Peregrine heard begging, audible for much of the morning in the car park and a Silver-washed Fritillary. (Steve Brown). At Abenhall this morning a Hawfinch flying into broadleaf woodland, three Ravens, a male Sparrowhawk, 20+ Swifts, 20+ House Martins, a Hobby, six Buzzards, a Whitethroat and a Green Woodpecker. (Rob Husbands).

Newnham-on-Severn     Sedge Warblers, Goldfinches, a pair of Bullfinches, Pied Wagtails, Swallows and House Martins. Also Small and Large White, Ringlet, Comma and Gatekeeper butterflies. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Symonds Yat     At Yat Rock a WHITE ADMIRAL in the car park and from the viewpoint early afternoon much activity from the Peregrines, a Goshawk, a Hobby, a Red Kite, a Sparrowhawk, four Ravens, several Buzzards, a Green Woodpecker,Swifts, Swallows and House Martins. Also a female Club-Tailed Dragonfly, a White-legged Damselfly, a Hummingbird Hawk Moth, Red Admirals, Large and Small Whites, a Holly Blue, Speckled Wood, two Silver-washed Fritillaries and a Fallow Deer.(Steve Brown/Chris & Phil Andrews). WWT Slimbridge     From Zeiss hide a good selection of waders including a CURLEW SANDPIPER, a Green Sandpiper, a Greenshank and a Ruff. (Paul Rich).

Tresham     A Spotted Flycatcher in the village centre along the entrance to Tresham Farm and two singing Corn Buntings along the track going S from the village to a barn. (Vic Polley).

Sharpness     31 Mandarins between Sharpness and Purton this evening along the canal. (Andy Jordan).

Highnam     At Rodway Hill Golf Club SO789201, eight Pied Wagtails, six juveniles, c30 Swallows feeding young and two Starlings also collecting food. (Alan Hooper).

Epney     A Yellow Legged Gull loafing on the mud bank at 6pm. (Martin McGill/Ian Hull).

Coombe Hill Meadows     This afternoon seven Little Ringed Plovers, three Redshank chicks, three Lapwing chicks, two Oystercatcher chicks, a Little Owl and a singing Yellowhammer. (Ian Hull).

Southrop     A male Grey Partridge calling from a field adjacent to the old Southrop aerodrome this morning and five Yellowhammers, two Corn Buntings, five Linnets and a Grey Wagtail on the road between Southrop and Hatherop. (Michael Cook).

Coombe Hill Meadows     Two Mute Swans with eight cygnets, a Teal, 80 Mallards, a Shoveler, three Little Egrets, seven Cormorants over, two adult Oystercatchers with two chicks, 30 Lapwings, including young birds, two Redshanks with three young, two Little Ringed Plovers, a Curlews, two Green Sandpipers, a Cuckoo singing, a Grasshopper Warbler reeling persistently by the board walk, two Reed Warblers, also Sedge Warbler, Whitethroat, Lesser Whitethroat, Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff and Reed Buntings. Frampton     First Common Tern chicks hatched today at the Sailing Lake, also 20+ Swifts and eight Great Crested Grebes including a juvenile. (Nick Goatman).

Sapperton     No sign of the Monarch butterfly of unknown origin at Daneway Banks GWT reserve at SO937034 today but 4+ Large Blue butterflies. (MK).
