Gloucester     At Horsebere Brook Flood Storage Area this afternoon two Little Grebes, a Little Egret, five Grey Herons, a Lapwing, a Snipe, a Common Sandpiper, a family of at least five Whitethroats, a Sedge Warbler, a Reed Warbler, two Whinchats, a Stonechat and two Reed Buntings. (Andy Jayne).

Thursday 21st July 2016

Eastleach Martin     Four QUAIL calling from a wheat field N of the village this morning. Two close to the gate at SP20650754 and two further along the road northwards close to the field edge. Also two Ravens, two Linnets, a Corn Bunting and several Yellowhammers. (Alan Williams).

Ashleworth Ham      Buzzards, Sedge and Reed Warblers, two juvenile Stonechats, Swifts and a family of Lesser Whitethroats today. Also Small, Large and Green-veined Whites, Meadow Brown, Gatekeepers, Red Admiral and Peacock, Small, Essex and Large Skipper butterflies, Scorpion Flies, Meadow Grasshoppers and Dark Bush Crickets. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Tirley     30+ House Martins over the village and ten Swallows flew straight through SW.  (Mark Grieve).

Wednesday 20th July 2016

WWT Slimbridge     The SPOONBILL on the Top New Piece at 9:30am. Also four Ruff (2m), 20 Dunlins, ten Avocets and 50 Lapwings. On South Lake 99 Black-tailed Godwits, a Ruddy Shelduck, 24 Redshanks and five Green Sandpipers. (@slimbridge_wild).

Coombe Hill Meadows     A Grasshopper Warbler reeling from the Snipe pool late morning. The Snipe pool is the small pool through the gate on the right before the boardwalk. (Ian Hull).

Duntisbourne Leer    Two Grey Partridges in a stubble field at 7:30pm this evening near Duntisbourne Leer, three Yellowhammers on telegraph wires nearby. (Mike Cook).

Hardwicke     A Barn Owl quartering waste ground at 5am this morning. (Mike Cook).

Tirley     Three Cormorants flew over high SW. 35 Swallows and eight House Martins on wires. At Haw Bridge a mixed flock of 20 House Martins and Swallows on wires. (Mark Grieve).

Sunday 19th July 2016

Leighterton     A QUAIL calling today at 1pm in the grass field opposite Bennett’s Farm. (Vic Polley).

Berkeley     A Kingfisher flew across the Old Show Field to the Berkeley Pill by Jumpers Lane at 8:35am. (Paddy Doyle).

Shurdington     Two Red Kites flying above a tractor in a field N of the allotments at 11:30am. (Jane Mitchell).

Coombe Hill Meadows     A pair of Mute Swans with four young still, a juvenile Shelduck, ten Teal, at least 60 Mallards, a Cormorant, at least five Grey Herons, at least nine Little Egrets, 32 Lapwings, an adult Redshank, two Green Sandpipers, a juvenile Yellow Wagtail, three Whinchats, a singing Reed Warbler, Sedge Warblers active along the ditches, looked as if several broods had fledged and at least three Reed Buntings still singing. Cobney Meadows     An adult Shelduck with at least two ducklings and five Green Sandpipers today. (Mike Smart).

WWT Slimbridge     A ringed White Stork (green ring Z1213) following tractors on the Tack Piece and perching on the chimney of the old Scott Cottage outside the centre, present until 4:35pm at least. This ringed bird is different from the bird seen last month. (@slimbridge_wild).

Ashleworth Ham    From the hide, seven Lapwings, a Little Egret, two Blackcaps, a Nuthatch , nine Swallows, three Grey Herons, an eclipse male Wigeon, two Stock Doves and two Ravens today. (Mark Grieve).

Eastleach Martin     3+ QUAILS still calling late evening in wheat fields close to road and one seen in flight N of Eastleach Martin at SP20600754. (Stuart Matthews).

Cotswold Water Park (East)     On Pit 111a two female Tufted Ducks, one with one duckling and one with two ducklings. Also two Common Terns, nine Cormorants, a Cetti’s Warbler heard and a male Sparrowhawk. On Pit 111b nine Red Crested Pochards including three well-grown young. On Pit 111 a Red Kite, two Reed Warblers, a pair of Great Crested Grebe with four young, five Gadwalls, two Little Grebes, two Reed Buntings, two Common Terns, seven Cormorants, a drake Shoveler, 20 Mallards, a Little Egret, a Buzzard, a Green Woodpecker, two Tufted Ducks and an Oystercatcher heard. On Pit 126 two Egyptian Geese, seven Common Terns (pic by John F), two Sedge Warblers singing, 30 Mallards, 40 Tufted Ducks and four Great Crested Grebes (3 juvs). Coombe Hill Meadows    Five Whinchats, a pair of Mute Swans with four cygnets, a juvenile Shelduck, a Redshank, three Grey Herons, three Little Egrets, a Curlew, three Little Ringed Plovers (1 ad, 2 juvs), two Dunlins, 21 Lapwings, a Tawny Owl calling, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, 10+ Long-tailed Tits, a Kingfisher, four Whitethroats, five Chiffchaffs, two Willow Warblers, four Blackcaps, four Sedge Warblers, a Cetti’s Warbler, six Reed Buntings, a Sand Martin, six Swifts, 15+Swallows and 12+ Goldfinches. Eastleach Martin     4-5 QUAILS still calling this morning in wheat field close to road and one seen in flight N of Eastleach Martin at SP20600754. Also two Red Kites, 3+ Corn Buntings, 4+ Yellowhammers, 3+ Whitethroats, two Chiffchaffs and a Blackcap still singing. (Jonathan Angliss/R Hopkins).

Saul Warth     Early morning a Common Sandpiper, 100+ Curlews, two adult and two juvenile Redshanks, a Yellow Wagtail, a Grey Wagtail, 30+ Shelducks (50% juveniles) and four Little Egrets. (MK).

Tirley Sandpits     7+ Skylarks, nine Chiffchaffs, seven Swifts S, a Goldcrest, 24+ Swallows, 20+ House Martins, two Green Woodpeckers, 3+ Yellow Wagtails, six Whitethroats, a male Whinchat in a Beet field, nine Stock Doves, a Blackcap, 36+ House Sparrows feeding on maize, two Yellowhammers, a Bullfinch and 15 Linnets. Also a juvenile Bullfinch in the garden and at Staunton 15 House Martins. (Mark Grieve).

Forest of Dean    At Moseley Green Ravens, Greenfinches, Linnets, a Ringlet and Small Skipper butterflies, a Fallow Deer and 20+ Dor Beetles. At Parkend a Song Thrush, a Blackcap, Marbled White and Ringlet butterflies, a Common Lizard and five Wild Boars. At Nagshead a Bullfinch, Ringlet butterflies, a mating pair of Emerald Damselflies, an Emperor Dragonfly laying eggs and a male Common Lizard. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Symonds Yat     From Yat Rock viewpoint the Peregrine pair with the juvenile male, Buzzards, Ravens, two Goshawks, Stock Doves, a Spotted Flycatcher, a Rose Chafer and two Holly Blue butterflies. (Chris & Phil Andrews).

Tewkesbury     At Upham Meadow an adult Curlew N of the motorway, guarding two fully-grown chicks already able to fly quite strongly today. (Mike Smart).

Coombe Hill Meadows     A GREAT WHITE EGRET from 9:30am today. (Ian Hull). At least six Whinchats at Coombe Hill Meadows including an adult male. (Graham Smith). Also today along the canal a singing Chiffchaff, 50 Swallows and House Martins at the Wharf car park and two Reed Buntings. Butterflies included Brimstone, Meadow Brown, Green-veined White, Speckled Wood, Large White and dragonflies included Brown Hawker, Emperor, Common Darter, Ruddy Darter, Black-tailed Skimmer, Broad-bodied Chaser, Large Red and Common Blue damselflies. Twyning     A Red Kite over Abbots fishing pools at Church End today. (Sarah Loaring).

Cotswolds     A Red Kite seen drifting NW over A436 at Hampen at 10:35am.  Later at 2:40pm at Great Rissington six Red Kites and three Buzzards attracted by tractor cutting a hay meadow. (John Widgery).

Forest of Dean    A pair of Barn Owls hunting over the Angus Buchanan Trust fields in Coleford this evening. (Geoff Fawcett).

Severn Hams, Tewkesbury     A male Corn Bunting, singing persistently on the Ham, the first for a very long time. Also three Little Egrets flew over S. (Mike Smart).

Cleeve Hill     Two Redstarts, three Stonechats, two Lesser Whitethroats, four Whitethroats, 20+ Linnets, a Kestrel and a Buzzard this morning. (Martin Greenish).
